Just realized we had not started a NORRA thread, so here it is.

Tony,
You know I'm in for the Norra. At least for the start. What's your thoughts, should we roll down to San Felipe after the start of the Norra 1000?
Chris

Re: NORRA Race
Heck yeah Chris. Or even somewhere along the salada. There are a few really good spots to get good action down there!
Re: NORRA Race
our very own chris wilson is going to be racing an original stroppe bronco in this historical event. the bronco is owned by another gfb member, mr. early bronco toddz, the bronco is now down in el cajon being prepped/restored by chris and top notch fab guy glen from complete fabrication.

Re: NORRA Race
Just read in this months issue of Dirt Sports that Robbys Hay Hauler is running (owned by the Abati's of the Imperial Valley), The McMillans are restoring two of their Cheno Porsche powered buggies, and that Greg Adler purchased this Jeep for restoration

I'm signed up to drive the Big Oly chase truck to La Paz and can't wait!
Hoping to add a bunch of legends signatures to my "1,000 miles" Baja book while chillin with them in Bay of LA, Loreto and La Paz. That won't suck!
Hope to see some of ya atleast at the start.

Re: NORRA Race
Conejo! That was Mike Swellingers old jeep. BTW, I have the original race tranny from Mike Swellengers class 4 truck in my bronco. It still says Conejo on it. Steve Cuhane says he built it when he worked for Mike before he started Cuhane Transmissions. I can't wait for this event, there are going to be a ton of cool people and vehicles there. We are making progress restoring Todd's 69 O/A winner Stroppe bronco. In fact I'll be picking up the race tranny for it from Culhane today. Expect to have it in the dirt for a shake down next month before we do the paint and such.

Re: NORRA Race
Successful test today.
The 69 O/A winner is mostly prepped and mechanically ready. It drives nicer than we expected. It has way more horsepower than suspension, like some of the Stock Full and 8 trucks I've driven. We changed tire pressures and made a major improvement and that's about all we have to adjust. We adjusted the shift cable and got the reverse manual valve body C4 to play nicely with the period-correct ratchet shifter. The brakes a very good and from the few early broncos I've driven, this one feels more like a race car in that it's very responsive and tight. Hands off the wheel at 60 it tracks true, full power brakes stop straight and dig hard. We felt like we were in a time machine bombing down the graded roads. It fishtails just like in the old video clips when you nail the throttle coming off the corners but it's more controllable than I expected. Above 4000 rpm the open headers let out a wail not heard since Bud Moore Trans-Am cars where the shit. Overall this is going to be huge fun and we will be grinning all the way to La Paz.
Now we will start on the cosmetics. Body and paint work plus a few odds and ends. Attached is a picture with Todd behind the wheel of his baby.

I don't have a diesel but I maybe down there for the start. Have you relocated to Cali?
