Had some ilness that slowed things way down. Chris came and helped with drivetrain removal while I watched from my chair.
Engine/tranny/transfer came out to get new paint. Grey hammer under and body color engine compartment.
Back in and it runs. Fluids are in drove it to get the shop organized The plane is gone and I have more room and time to fix the Jeep and work on the 72.
Decision made to trash the old carpet and stock seats. I will research that stuff and buy & install next spring after Jeep Safari. New modern seats require a cage mod so I have some fab to do. The Ex Avalanch fab guy will add the new gusset at the B pillar after I cut out the old ones that interfere with the seats.
So the Jeep has been time consuming with new gears and alloy axles and the Rubi lockers are gone and ARB in both axles. Rebuild the rear tire carrier cuz the thing was coming apart. Took some time. "Trail ready" is sure a joke.
Got lots of used Jeep stuff to sell

Latest mods are skid, front Al beauty plate, and "B" brace change to fit the new seats

Thanks guys.
Cosmetic stuff is 99%. Good enough for the mountains and rocks. Time to get it dirty.
Now for details. Couple of knobs, window crank, drivers window is too tight, steering box is too loose. etc.
Looking seriously to adding vintage air.
That will be next summers effort between trail use.
I will need help on dealing with a zero lash gear box. New or rebuilt. Time for some phone calls.

What a relief. Do over not required!!
The gauges fit my custom dash and the whole thing fits behind the steering wheel.
This is the first time I have not had to do three tries to get a custom project correct.
The pod still needs cosmetic attention and wiring will be interesting even with my electrical experience. I am sure there will be a long effort.
The other big deal is new steering with ram assist and remote PS Res.
Those 2 projects will probably eat up a couple of months.

I don't know what it is with You, Chris and Ramsey and Yellow vehicles. I liked Chris's Class 8 4x4 when it was grey then is became the speedy banana.
Even Kupiec Class 8 Chevy.
I still like them all...

Its amazing what the gauge people are doing these days. I think the demand is from the hot rod/street rod guys. All the gauges are smart gauges and programmable.
Took them 2 weeks to make them. Speedhut.com
More to come when I redesign the rest of the dash and get rid of the ancient stuff.

Nice looking rig!!! Love that rear bumper - not seen any "single" bar with the tire carrier! Got any more pics? Did you fab it up or purchase?

PO had the bumper custom made with tire carrier. An ok design and it mates with the frame properly. It has an unusual bearing at the pivot and no way to take apart or lube. There are actually 3 tubes and the two hidden ones connect to the outer end of the bumper on each side. It was pretty floppy and did not pass my shake test when I got it. So - I had the fab shop put a link from the RR cage tube to the upper corner. Now it works fine. I added an 1/8" tether like I do an all my rigs. The setup uses a bolt with wings to attach the carrier to the bumper and I just added a tether for it. Note that the fenders are bobbed.
