"THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
"THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
I bought this 93 bronco off craigslist in late September 2019. The guy i bought it from had bought it in Bishop. It had belonged to the spring valley fire department with 178K miles on it. The day i bought this i ordered up the 4" over Threat motorsports package with the Q80 springs....

Did the Solo motorsports fuel pump access plate while i waited on parts from Threat.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
I had received most of what i needed to start cycling the rear. after it was all done, i strapped it at 15-1/2" with double limit straps. It started to bind at 17" and i put a 2" square tubing above the stock bump stop to save the springs from going into too much negative arch. I think it looks a little hokey, but it will just be temporary for now. I also put a giant 8.8 truss on the rear end, new brakes and bearings and dampened it with some King 3.0 x 12" tripple bypass. i also bought ruffstuff specialties spring perches and the spring plates with shock tabs that i used for the limit straps. heres a bunch of pictures.....

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
here is the battery tray i whipped up. I stole the idea from a GFB thread, but i dont have a tube bender, so i tweaked the design a little.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
and that's where i am at right now... will update as i go along.
Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
i like that battery mount.
id reconsider that limit strap setup. with the axle swinging forward on droop the strap effectively get longer under dynamic load. always account for 1" of stretch for every 12" of length on a quad wrap strap. i would move the upper mount behind the axle, ideally it would be a vertical pull at droop.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
thank you for that. I considered moving the limit strap back but thought it would be getting crushed by the bump stop. the straps are also doubled up. i stood on the axle and it would not go down anymore figuring it was good. it may have been binding though as well. i will check that out. thanks
Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
I decided to move the rear limit strap mount more towards the rear. the perfect spot for the limit straps landed on the oval hole in the frame. instead of buying some weld washers, i had some metal laying around and put a sleeve into a diamond plate and started welding onto the frame. i ran out of welding gas mid weld, so i stopped and went on to finish the battery cables. i bought the cable and preloaded solder connections from mcmastercarr. heres some pics,

Looking good! I like the inner fenders. One thing I was taught with welding to the frame is no sharp points. You are more likely to get stress cracks since the heat ends in a point. Just grab a grinder and round them off a good bit and finish buggering them on.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
thank you, i started putting on the inner fender last night after welding and it may have warped a bit. im going to try and finesse it tonight and see if i can get the holes lined up. i rounded the plates for the limit straps a bit, but probably not enough. still need to get the correct bolts for the limit straps and the rear end should be finished.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
something to consider for the future is a hole saw plug act like a homemade weld washer. you could have welded it on and then drilled it out on the truck for the bolt boss so you didnt have to find a way to hold it. i hate grind so it was a trick i picked up in the early days when all i have a was chop saw and cut off wheel.
Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
Here is a little update... after buying multiple shocks tabs, i couldn't get any of them to work with where i needed them to be, so i made my own. i will be adding gussets.

Re: "THE FIRE TRUCK" 93 BRONCO BUILD
thank you! it took me a couple hours just to make one side. im trying to get everything buttoned up on the driver side so i can move on the the passenger side. that one should be easier since there isn't a truss in the way. here they are all burned up and gusseted.
