i would suggest checking to see fox offers the old pin style top cap by itself. swap the top cap, get rid of the adapter doodad and i bet its close.

also i suggest getting studs of the third, makes install much simpler.

https://www.kartek.com/parts/fox-20-bum ... valve.html you could use this top cap and a little welding and have your pin style top cap

If I go coilover, it'll only be after some heim radius arms and cross over steering... ill do uniballs for sure at that point. For now it just seemed like an unnecessary expense.

Good ideas on the shock caps. If I hadn't just stumbled across a bigger better bucket and shock Id seriously consider it.
I dig the stud idea. I made dowel pins to align it while it was wet with rtv...(still in place in the pics) studs would be cool too.

Right place right time. My buddy is going coilover, and we're doing the work at my place... the buckets are just kinda landing on the ground in front of my shop.

Fix one problem... find another. But I'm in good spirits cause this is far nicer stuff than I planned on giving this old sow.

Anyway... ive got appropriate bumpstop with this... but the shock mount location on the old Rancho stuff is about an inch too forward which of couse makes the big boy shocks interfere with the buckets....

No worries. Back out comes the plasma cutter... and back off come the radius arms.

Driving by Friday is the goal... whose taking bets!?

Well... set it all on the ground to find that moving the balljoints out would be absolutely necessary... which one of you wants to send the first " I told ya so"?

All thats left is repaint and reassemble. Hopefully for the last time before getting this stuff dirty.

What thickness of plate did you use for the plating and truss?

It varied a bit in size. The open areas on the back of the beam I used 1/4" plate. Thats where plating seemed to be the most beneficial. On the front of the beams I used 1/8". The truss was cut from a piece of 2x6" .120 steel that I had left over from another project. Personally I feel like this could have been .90 wall, but the thicker stuff is what I had laying around from another project, and I didn't feel like such a small amount of weight would be a detriment to my use... unsprung weight or not.

The "fill" pieces I used to move the balljoint out were 1/4" plate.

Its alive! Im planning on relying on the Bronco for my commute again tomorrow. Its a class that has me driving significantly further than normal even. Hell with it. I've got tow coverage...

HardParked for sex appeal:
Image

That stock steering is uglying up my whole universe up front. Its bothering me far more than the radius arms so far...
Image

More proof of how garage built this one is... tape measure alignment!
Image

...aaaaaaaand one more poser shot for good measure.

Thanks for the help and attaboys so far. I appreciate the feedback.

Next up, a proper rear shock and hopefully some 2.5 wide deavers...

Then bumpers... then cage... then aluminium head 408... :)

looks good.

two sheets of al with some grease in between them under the front tires will make alignment significantly easier because it allows the tires to move around. just make sure to chock the rear wheels or you get grease all over the floor and a bronco turned sideways. you get scrub friction on the concrete so your measurements arent always accurate.

ive also read of people using magazines

I love the magazine idea! Ill try that one when I get some lower profile lower spring perches. ( gotta lower the nose bleed look just a bit)

I usually use a couple pieces of peel n'stick linoleum tiles with grease on them but I just tossed em a month ago.

I hosed the concrete with simple green this time... it worked "ok"

Buckets are cool... but I'd have done a coilover in a heartbeat if those found me first. These kinda landed in my lap.

I'm in Alpine. The mustang makes as many autocross events at Qualcomm as I have days off for, and hits Cars and Coffee in La Mesa and JBA if im off.

Had to chime in to report that it flat tows behind a motorhome like a champ!

I was a bit concerned considering the omission of the swaybars front and rear. Not to mention the Harbor Freight free with coupon tape measure alignment.
