Your build looks cool. I am a Ford purist with the motor, but I still like the LS motors. Here in CA, We have dump smog laws for street legal vehicles.

Ok, I have a odd question for you guys that go to Silver Lake dunes, why do I always see the flag/whips on the front bumper? I ask, because here in the southern California dunes, we put them on the rear, is it the rule there?

The rules are vehicles with seat belts have to mount the flag to the front most portion of the vehicle. Vehicles without seat belts have to mount it to the rear of the vehicle. So jeeps/trucks/buggies must have the flags in the front and Quads and dirt bikes mounted on the rear. I wish dirtbikes were exempt. I break my flag at least once a weekend and they are $25 a piece.

We have emissions laws in Illinois, but only on vehicles 1996 and newer. Any older, it's pretty much free range. I've only read about the SMOG nightmares you guys have in CA. I would still trade you states and laws in a heartbeat! I've only been to CA once, but I saw the whole coast from Napa to Chula Vista and I would live anywhere in between LOL

Digging this build and not hate for the LS motor here - just pure & simple jealousy!

The jealousy continues with that garage!!! I wish I had that space. Can't wait to see what you fill it with & when you get the project rolling.

Ya, I love San Diego, close to Baja, the desert and Sand Dunes at Glamis in the winter and a little bit of dunes in the summer on the Beach at Pismo/Oceano dunes.

I wish we had that 1996 year cut off on smog, ours is 1975. In some zip codes in CA, you only have to do a smog one when you first purchase the vehicle, so we have some options to work with.

If you are not going to keep them, I would love to have the factory trim pieces.

Ill keep that in mind as I wont be using any of the trim when it gets fiberglass.

Thank you very much, but it hasn't been easy. A year ago I lost ALL my garage belongings, my Jeep, my wife's Denali, and my garage. I was also trying to sell my house for 5 years with no luck. I was eventually able to sell the house and move. I found out the HARD way car/truck/motorcycle parts are NOT covered under homeowners insurance. So I lost about $15K in parts I've accumulated in the last 15 years. The only good to come from it was I have slowly been rebuilding my tool collection and I was forced to start the Bronco build. Building this garage is a dream come true, and I'm learning a ton building it myself. I bought all the electrical supplies today so I will be running a lot of conduit tomorrow. I don't really love doing home work, but I'm dying to get onto the Bronco and I can't get back on it until there's electric in the garage.

Not much progress on the Bronco. I did get some matching 4.56 gears for the 9" and I got a sweet deal on a PowerMaster XS starter. I've also been working on the garage quite a bit. I just finished up installing siding on 2 sides. I should have the rest done in a week or two and then it's back on the conduit. Hopefully in a month i'll have the final inspection done and then it's go time on the Bronco. I'm also looking into getting a Polaris Ranger 800XP from a buddy of mine. We have a dunes trip the end of June and there's no way the bronco will be ready.

Well....... FINALLY back on the Bronco. It's been a long time coming with moving, building a garage, saving for a lift and installing it, etc. BUT I was able to get working on it this weekend. I removed a TON of weight mostly getting it ready to box the frame rails. So far I removed all 6 shocks, front inner wheel wells, both swaybars, both bumpers, rear tire carrier, and the gas tank which is full of 10-15 year old gas. It still smells good and is clear which surprises me a lot. I ordered a Thermal Dynamics plasma cutter to make cutting out the frame plates much easier. It should be here this week. I also removed one of the front core support body mounts to test fit the aluhttp://www.gofastbroncos.com/forum/download/fi ... 21786minum solid mounts I bought. I have to buy some new hardware so I can get them all installed.

Damn, boy.. You’re a BADASS!!! Building a wicked Garage like that on your own AND putting together new LS powered GFB project takes huge cajoles. I love it, totally inspiring. Keep it going brother!

LOL, well thank you. It's just been a lot of years in the making and trying to be as frugal as possible. I've had the Bronco for 5 years now waiting to be built. Plus I had to sell my dream truck Ford Raptor to pay for a lot of the garage. And i'm a working man with a stay at home wife and 2 kids so it's been a lot of sacrifices to get to this point. My wife actually helped with the siding and holding stuff here and there LOL. I'm just stoked to actually be working on the Bronco FINALLY.

Question for anybody out there in the know, How bad is it if I leave the Rancho drop down brackets if I weld them to the front crossmember? I plan to widen the front end 3-4" per side in the future and i'd hate to go backwards if I had to cut the drop down brackets off to install stock brackets for C & T beams. I won't be hitting the desert with this truck, mostly all off road will be at the sand dunes which I believe is much smoother and easier on parts. I will be widening the beams and plating them myself and if I dont have to "turn" them it would save a lot of time I think.

Personally, if you will be widening the beams the time to turn them is not that much more. Either way I'd also personally avoid welding the brackets on. Nothing is ever really permanent in this sport & I HATE having to try & cut something off that someone welded on. Usually (though not in this case) out of laziness.

The extra width you're adding is just that much more leverage on the beam brackets. Yes sand is a bit better on parts than the desert, but the bronco is still a heavy pig!

Don’t weld them. When your ready to go wide got to stock brackets or Solo has dabbed ones.
