Sorry Brian you just missed it. Sold to Bajaluv. I talked to him about the harness and if he doesn’t use it you can have it.cs_drums wrote:May be interested in the 351. Can you send me the details and price when your ready? 769-419-094three

Thanks, I love your build and really love that new garage you have! I am going to PM you some LS3 questions see what your doing on a few specifics. Shock are pretty fresh, had them all gone through less than 500 miles ago. We pulled them because the whole bronco is getting covered in steel it bumper to bumper. I love that stuff so much I’m blasting off powdercoat to apply it.black954 wrote:Amazing Bronco for sure! I'm glad i'm not the only one swapping in a LS3. Shocks out for freshening?
Re: John's 91 GFB
Motor officially arrived, perfect timing as the auto fab mounts are done. Going to have the third serviced and trying to decide on the new ratio. Torn between 5.43 and 5.83. I am 100% dirt miles and 99% 2wd so I think I can get away with either. I’ve been told pinion is a weak spot in the d44 at those ratios but I only use 4wd when I get stuck so I don’t think it will be an issue.

John's 91 GFB
What is your current gearing?
I went with 4.88 when I was running 35s. I never got around to regearing the front. Now that I’m on 37s I’m on the fence about doing the front 4.88 or just redoing everything 5.13
I honestly will probably keep the 4.88 or Change to 5.13 depending on what I find for a front third member
Before the super charger I felt like it needed more gear. Through big stuff it would pull in second, as soon as I hit 3rd it would fall on its face. After the supercharger I can hit 3rd and still maintain speed maybe a little pulling still. I think after the build I’ll still have power to pull in 3rd.
Being your gaining a great deal of power I’d say you probably need less gear than you had before. But... more grunt is always appreciated so I don’t know.

Re: John's 91 GFB
Well thank you for the kind words but I can only hope my Bronco turns out half as nice as yours does! I am on the fence with that Steel It paint. How come you prefer it? I think I would like it better if it came in a satin black. I'm leaning towards using Chassis Saver satin black on my build. By all means ask away, i'll do my best to help out. Youre gearing choice is now starting to make me re-think my choice of 4.56's with my 35"s. I will be eventually be going 37"s and I will do 90% sand in 2wd in my truck. My plans are to add a Whipple 4.0L so maybe i'm ok? My CJ7 with a 400hp V-8 and 35"s had 4.56's and screamed on the highway so that's why I originally didn't want any taller.alpinejd3 wrote:Thanks, I love your build and really love that new garage you have! Re: John's 91 GFB
My current gearing is 4.56. The old motor was around 225hp to the wheels, torque was higher 200s I don't recall exactly. I am guessing the new motor will be about 200 more on the HP side roughly, maybe a little less. With my current setup third gear was worthless Offroad, driving hard Offroad 2nd would pull to about 70-75, and then third would fall flat and only run about 78 or so. The one time I had to jump on the highway third was fine, but it was for 2 miles getting into Parker.cs_drums wrote:What is your current gearing?

What are your power specs with the supercharger?
I am going to experiment a bit, and start with the low gearing and a higher than normal stall, try and set it up to run really pissed off all the time in the higher rpm ranges. I think peak torque is around 5200 and peak HP even higher. I am also running the master shift electronic paddle shifters and it has a backup bump shifter, similar to a sequential. So with that I won't mind flying through the gears as often.
If my calculations are correct third gear with 37's and the 5.83 gearing should do about 85mph at 3500 RPM. That sounds pretty good to me.
Re: John's 91 GFB
I was originally not a fan of the lighter steel color but have come to like it. Its easier to identify and cracks or issues than black for me which is probably very rare and dumb but something I think about. I also like that you can weld right over it without any prep really, emergency repair out in the dirt on Powdercoat would not be fun, have a grinder on standby. Last thing I just like that you can touch it up easily and it blends perfect. That being said I am really comparing steel it to Powdercoat, not any other spray application. The only other one I have used was textured spray for a firewall and I hated it, it was impossible to clean as dirt got into the little textures and it went from nice dark black to dirt brown instantly. The steel it is extremely easy to clean.black954 wrote:Well thank you for the kind words but I can only hope my Bronco turns out half as nice as yours does! I hope I don't regret the gearing being so low, but I just think for how I like to drive it and what I will use it for its the best option. if I'm wrong not the end of the world I'll just go to a different gear set. I may just do the rear for now see how I like it and then swap the front over once I am happy with the main rear setup.

Re: John's 91 GFB
That does sound like you hit the gearing on the head. I might be ordering some new gears so I don't have to pay to get them set up twice. I have similar plans with my set up until I can go forced induction. I went with a billet Circle D 3,600 stall converter so it will really come on hard when on the throttle to move the heavy pig. I went with a full reverse manual valve body and a Winters Shifter. I do like your paddle shifter idea. I like the Whipple 4.0L roots blower since its a larger inch motor and to hopefully run lower boost levels to get around 800whp. That way the intake charge stays cooler. You can make that power with a 2.9L, but you have to run a lot higher PSI which creates more heat. Plus the larger displacement will have a little "lag" to hopefully lessen the shock load on the drivetrain with such a heavy truck.alpinejd3 wrote:My current gearing is 4.56. That does sound good. I think I will buy a can to test it out, cause i've never seen it in person.

Re: John's 91 GFB
From what I have read the reason Steel It only comes in the color it does is because they can't get the properties they want out of it in any other color. I guess it's silver due to the amount of stainless steel in it. My thought is you could just top coat the stuff with black spray paint if you really had to have black color. This does kill the weld through capabilities of it though!
On a side note - keep us posted on how the steel it holds up. Is it as tough/durable as advertised?

This is all accurate, only one color due to the amount of stainless. I’m a huge fan, did my whole cage and bumpers. These parts Not very high in abuse, thinking about pulling rear end and getting Steel it job.ChaseTruck754 wrote:From what I have read the reason Steel It only comes in the color it does is because they can't get the properties they want out of it in any other color. John your sure you can get front to match that? I was pretty sure 5.38 the last stop we can get in Ford TTB

More progress. Learned the truck pan isn’t even close. Ordered a Holley Camaro pan and it’s perfect and motor is now in.
