The Chief's Clever Bronco

Post by dtbback »

Hello Guys,

The time has finally come, to start showing you guys the parts that I have been stock piling for the last year and a half. I originally bought my bronco, so I could buy a boat, and go to go to the river. Here are her specs when I picked her up in early 2014: 96 Eddie Bauer with a 351W, factory tow package, JC Whitney fog light bumper with billet grill, manual hubs, and only 132K on the clock! :D She made 3 great runs to the river that summer averaging 14mpg towing my boat!

I was originally planning to go hardcore FSB on this thing with an 8 lug swap and a sterling. Then I found this site and my wallet suddenly became anorexic!. The plans for my build are stock width, coilover conversion, deavers, and 9" swap. Unfortunately, and like most of you with is going to occur in stages. Look forward to Stage 1.

I look forward to everyone's feedback!

-Will

you should pile all your parts in 1 pic. I'd love to see how tall the pile is.

They are not that bad, grind a flat spot on the rivet and then use a 1/2" drill bit through the center. Make sure to use a sharp bit. One time I tried to remove one with my plasma cutter, what a mess!! I don't recommend it.

I grew up in Glendora. Been going there since I was little. Still the best place to get a car wash in my opinion.

I would have totally done that but I didn't have my grinder than. I am very grateful to have it now thanks to Matt (93broncobuff). I am really lucky I dont have to drill out rivets on the stock radius arms. They're all attached using bolts.

You can also use that little pointy thing that punches a little dent into the metal to start the drill bits. I used a 1/4" bit then followed with 1/2".

That's the method I was using. Didn't work so great on the passenger side pivot. Had to go buy a right andle drill

You fellas need to get an air chisel -- grind the rivet flat with a flap wheel and use the air chisel straight point air bit. Its my favorite method anyway.
