We just did the same thing to a customers 1966 F100 frame last month with the crossmember. It was easier than drawing everything up for laser. We built a fixture for locating elevation wise and had to hog out the driverside of the frame on the inside so the diff could cycle up at bump.

Awesome! I’m glad to see my way of tackling this is similar to yours. Do you happen to have any pictures of it with the fixture attached? I’m curious how it was done. Also, did you set the pivot mounts perpendicular to the frame? I wasn’t sure if they are set at 90* from the factory, or a slight angle. That’s one measurement I should have grabbed from the donor before tearing into it.

Thanks! It seems easier than swapping the entire frame over to a newer bronco’s. Especially since it’s just me in the garage building this! If I had a two post lift I may have considered going that route.

I've thought about it both ways & considered both ways (although with a pickup vs. bronco) and each way has its pros and cons. Either way you do it should end up with a very cool rig. Hard to beat the dentside styling/overall looks, and the TTB setup for what we do just adds that much more coolness to the rig!

Got some pictures of my completed beams from Cho, just waiting on the radius arms to get cut and bent, then I can finally get back to work on this thing. It will help that my wife will be back from her deployment by then so I wont be on Mr. Mom duty anymore.

4.5" wider per side, CNC laser cut/bent, symmetrical billet beam ends, billet fill cap + added oil capacity, 1" uniballs, more clearance, stronger, and lighter than stock.

No kidding! I'm really glad I held out and waited for these, ill have the first set too, so that's kinda cool.

I also got some coated 2 1/4" primary to 4" collector Fenderwell exit headers, hoping there will be enough tire clearance with the wider beams now.

They're Jet Hot coated, supposed to be a no questions asked lifetime warranty.

Haven't got to touch this project unfortunately, been working on my other bronco, which snowballed into me building a 545 stroker for it too....


But I did score these!

Got a little further into the TTB build during quarantine. I got the crossmember in its permanent home and added some ears to give it a bit more weld surface. Notched the frame and started cycling the suspension, this is where the issues started. From ride height I was only cycling 5.5'' bump travel when I should be pushing 9"+ even with a pretty serious notch. Turns out the later frames have more of a kick in the frame allowing them more bump travel with lower ride height.

this left me with 3 options. option 1: Pie cut the frame and kick it up a few inches. This would mean relocating Engine/Trans/T-case/Core support/Steering etc. Option 2: build drop brackets for the TTB. This leaves me with a taller ride height and more stress on the crossmember, which is a common spot for cracks already. And lastly, Option 3: Body swap onto a later chassis. This is a bit of fab to make new body mounts up front, but gives me a clean sandblasted chassis to start with/off the shelf steering options instead of designing a dual swing steering setup from scratch.

Option 3 was the obvious choice for me, so I reached out to my friend Rob who owns a tow company in town. He has a buddy Mario who he had given a 93 bronco years ago as a donor rig. He still had it and was planning on scrapping it next week, so he gave it to me for free. Can't beat that! Sometimes things just work out. So I got it torn down and cut/pounded 8,000 rivets out of the damn thing getting all the suspension hangers etc knocked off it, and its getting blasted this weekend. Plan is to box the frame and coat it in Steelit and start throwing all the suspension/drivetrain in it and do the clean install it deserves then throw the body on and start the tube work.

check drivers beam bump with axles in, I notched my drivers side bottom frame rail to get more up travel but the cross over U joint hits on the bottom of the passenger beam pivot. Also kick ass build!
