BronCoyote
BronCoyote
Greetings Gentlemen!
I am putting a Coyote 5.0 into my 1980 Bronco that currently has a 302 V8, T18 4 speed, and NP 208.
I'll share the build here along with whatever I learn. My focus now is getting all the parts together before I start the build. I have ordered the engine (salvaged) and made of list of the other items I think will be required. I WELCOME your input into what I may be missing/challenges you foresee as well as the best places/prices for various items.
Also, while this round is mostly about drivetrain I also welcome advice about the best bang for buck upgrades I can do to beef up the suspension before it's redone entirely.
Prices/price estimates are included in case anyone else wants to play along at home

Re: BronCoyote
Sounds like it'll be a really cool build. Subscribing.
Re: BronCoyote
The f150 5.0 motors are detuned a bit and get 365 hp and 420 pounds-feet of torque I believe? That's plenty for me until I make some suspension upgrades
Re: BronCoyote
@Phoenix0783, you in Portland OR as your status suggests? I feel like I've seen your truck around NW?
Re: BronCoyote
Correction on output from our friends at wikipedia
A torque-biased variant of the Coyote is produced as an alternative to the EcoBoost V6 in the new F-150 pickup truck. The F150 5.0L receives a lower compression ratio (10.5:1), intake camshafts with less duration, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and revised cylinder heads and intake manifold (color change only, no difference in size or shape) intended to promote low-end and mid-range power and torque. The engine retains the Coyote's forged steel crank and piston-cooling jets but benefits from the addition of an external engine oil cooler similar to the Boss 302's. The changes result in the engine's peak horsepower dropping to 360 hp (268 kW; 365 PS) while torque remains the same as the Boss 302 at 380 lb·ft (520 N·m).[18]

Re: BronCoyote
Very cool, I subscribe! A very quick check online affirms my belief that a Coyote uses a 'drive-by-wire' throttle pedal assembly. If so, I think you'll need one of those.
Re: BronCoyote
Yeah good call, thankfully that comes with the Ford ECU package.sydude wrote:Very cool, I subscribe! A very quick check online affirms my belief that a Coyote uses a 'drive-by-wire' throttle pedal assembly. If so, I think you'll need one of those.

Re: BronCoyote
Sweet! Subscribed...
Re: BronCoyote
Day 1 was today. Nothing really notable, pics are up on the website. Will add captions to all the pics soon, but most are pretty self evident. So far I've deleted AC and some extra wiring. Installed the oil filter relocation sender and removed the auto trans flywheel. More to come gentlemen.

Sweet!
What are you going to do about suspension, and the rest of your bronc?

Re: BronCoyote
That looks to be an early bronco, but the front coil (over) buckets look similar to what autofab sells for your era bronco. Birdco I think was the one that just posted pics of these on his truck in his build thread.
The rear is a 4 link = all custom

Re: BronCoyote
Yup like Steve said, look like autofab front coilover buckets, a currie anti rock sway bar kit and somebody's links. Rear looks custom or wiy giant rear arms mixed with custom.

Re: BronCoyote
What level of off road performance are you looking for, and how much do you want to spend? Check out the go fast tech section, and there is a front and a rear suspension thread that explains a lot. I would also look at the big broncos section to see what others have done, to get some ideas.
