Nighthawk!

Post by birdco85 »

That's funny Will, most everything I have seen said no residual valve. I got under there yesterday and was able to move the rear caliper ever so slightly back and forth. Which makes me wonder if I do need a residual valve.

I ordered everything new though. New pads rotors all around and front calipers with metal pistons. I'll go ahead and get a residual valve to throw in the mix.

Actually, after looking at Wilwood and speedway's website it says residual valves are only needed on disk brakes when the master cylinder is BELOW the caliper to prevent fluid return. The always needed on drum brakes.

Everything I've read recommended swapping to a 2lb residual pressure valve when converting to disc brakes. I hope that it will improve your braking issues.

So new rear pads and rotors. Went with Hawk HPS pads and the rotors are drilled slotted from brakeperformance.com. Not many options when it comes to a rotor for an 02 Kia Sportage haha. It has great rear brakes now! I made sure I followed the bedding procedure this time. Sure is nice to be able to stop. The other pads and rotors I took off were like mirrors. No wonder it wouldn't stop.

I know drilled rotors is unnecessary but they were$4 more and have a lifetime warranty. Now I just need to do the front and this thing should stop on a dime.
