Thanks guys. The little run at our crappy local Rowher Flats are got the juices flowing again......it's nice to finish a work phase and go to a play phase. The planning for work Phase 2 has already begun.

Jump to a temporary Phase 3.....

We're not ready to fully move into the Phase 3 rear end renovation until Summer 2016, but a Cal City romp just before Christmas with a full tank of gas pushed the already overtaxed 2.5 coilovers in the rear beyond their control. With KOH less than a month away at least a bit of temporary addition is necessary before.....we'll add some used 16" bypasses, respring the coilovers and service both. As much as I'd like to install a sway bar at this time, I think we'll wait until the full Phase 3 to include a new Currie 9" with discs, new canoe style link arms and whatever permanent shocks we end up using. For prerunner duty, the development of the IBP and a single per corner is likely where we're headed.

For Phase 2 this Summer, we hope to entirely renovate the front end including new beams & radius arms, steering components, big brakes and single IBP's. This temporary rear scenario got to take advantage of Greg's Christmas present as a help to properly size some new coils.....new computer scales!

Spring rates being calculated in the next day or so now that the bypasses have been selected. Paige and I drove to Placerville east of Sacramento to get these 3.0 x 16" four tube race series for $1,500. Very clean with spotless shafts. We've all seen big shocks before and these are wimpy compated to King Kongs, but they make the 37's look like 31's.

Existing was equal length 300 over 500. I'm going to a longer 500 lower and shorter 450 upper.....Hypercoils.

A drum brake question.....hoping at least Steve can answer this but everyone else has probably messed around with Bronco drums enough to know. I want to put new rear brakes on but don't have time for a disc conversion, and since this isn't the permanent rear axle I don't really want to try a cheapo conversion so I'll wait until Phase 3.

The two drum specs here are from Centric's site. My current drums don't quite fit over the axle shaft center coin which is 2.900", and looking at the drum here for 1980 through 1985 with a bore (aka hub register?) of 2.800" I see why. I'm going to have to ream the lug holes to 5/8" anyway so I suppose I could get this hole filed out the 0.100" or better, but what about using the later model drum?

Do you think the dimensions are close enough to use?

When I did my 9", the backing plates were rusted badly. I used the whole 8.8 backing plate when I put the rear end together. I didn't even realize there was a difference in the drums. I did order new drums from the auto parts store since they were cheaper than having my old ones turned.
