Thanks man! With a huge amount of help from Robert and Jesse for explaining things to me, I was pretty lost at first. Hopefully it all works well it’s saving me a lot of cash!

Thanks guys! Plan is to weld the hanger mount on this weekend and then pull off my knuckles and get those double sheered then just bend my tie rods and I’m ready to go!

Yeah I have needed to do steering for a long time. Been talking about it for like 4 years haha. The stock steering surprisingly never gave me issues until I hit the fence, well it did have a lot of bump steer

So pitman arm and swinger are on the truck. Double sheering and sleeving the knuckle to get rid of the taper. Hoping I get the welding rod I ordered to do the cast iron by Friday so I can get the knuckles welded and start bending some tie rods.

When letting the cast iron cool Iv read putting it in sand is a great way to let it cool slow, anyone know if it’s any specific sand or just some like regular sand from the wash.

Any sand should work. If you have a BBQ you can use it to pre heat then through them back on after welding and leave them there until the whole grill is cool. That’s what I did.

I have a oven here at work and I was going to use that to pre heat but then the problem is I am doing it Friday after work and want the knuckle for the weekend so I figured pre heat, weld, put in a bucket of sand In my car and drive home lol
I’d do it at home but the tig welder is at work

If that is what you have to do - that may work. The oven or grill works well, and I have never personally tried the sand, but I have read a lot of guys do it. May sound funny, but maybe preheat the same slightly, so it's not cold when the knuckles go in. And I'd probably just grab a couple bags of sand at home depot. It's cheap, but wear a mask when pouring it due to the silica dust.

If it’s better that I put it back in the oven to cool off I can do that too, id have to come back to work to get it but I want to do what’s best

I can't really tell you as I've never done it with sand personally. I know the oven and grill cools down slowly, and that is the main point here is to not quench the part or rapidly cool it. I have a buddy that used to swear the charcoal grill was the best. He'd get the coals started & would preheat as the fire went out & coals started, then weld and throw the parts back on the grill after welding & just leave it there til the coals were totally out hours later. Made for a very long post heat, but he was damn sure the things didn't cool down to quickly.
