Got my beams all plated and trussed up. Now time too get her back on the ground. More updates later

Ehhh cool to see you think outside the box? I do understand where Andy is coming from though.... Not a very thought out truss design but I'm sure it will work....

The issue at hand is respect. I wouldnt jump on someones thread asking that way. Obviously some people werent raised with manners. Thats the bullahit thats been goin on. Approached a little harsh? Maybe. Bottom line is this. The problem with this site is that everyone is too busy being nice and complimenting each other all the time, even when the work is complete shit. Same thing with FSB. Without someone bringing attention to work that is lacking in one area or another, how is a novice garage fabricator supposed to learn anything. It isn't all rainbows and butterflies, and it shouldn't be. This isn't Martha Stewart's talk show, it's a sight about trucks, fabrication and off roading. Suck it up and rub some dirt on it.

It's funny, you're either gonna help somebody out, say nothing to help or spare their feelings and lead them completely astray with warm fuzzies. Maybe there was a lack of tact but it wasn't ridiculous.

There's something to be said for standards and an online forum maintaining some credibility, whether it's constructive criticism or standard issue man-jabs.

Be honest, If this is going to be measured with the standards of a "GoFast" trussed beam, its not a total loss but there are issues. Nobody wants drama, I get it, but besides the dudes jumping on Andy's lack of fab jpg.s, there's not much reason to defend the truss method.

And the drain plug access mentioned... on another fab note entirely, it's risky to cut it off after the full burn welding.

the purpose of a truss is to increase rigidity and distribute or disperse the load paths of force on the beam. this "truss" is not really adequate in length, shape or construction to add much benefit at all. That plate's rigidity is severely diminished because of how wide it is and how much of it is only one sided, just over lapping. The actual three sided portions are short and the face is pretty wide for how long it is. I bend plate like that by hand with NO tools or gloves in my soft jaw vice

Depending upon the material length and thickness, the truss needs to extend a certain distance (being 3 sided) to offer the intended benefit.

A lot of people think other sites "talk shit" just to do it. There was an origin of safety and help somewhere back in the beginning that gets overlooked. People will google stuff and learn from results, be impacted negatively by them or dismiss the forums collective knowledge.

All the part of the problem stuff is so lame without any balance for quality

Let me guess, your dumb ass installed it or mounted a bump somewhere behind the beam on the arm because you don't understand the basic principles of leverage or unsprung weight rapidly cycling on a full sized TTB set up??

He's not a garage fabricator, but this back yard fabricator is making progress. Not quite where it needs to be but he's cutting, welding and moving in the right direction. Incredibly enough, with the help of GFB members.

That reminds me. We need an update, Captain!
