Camel Joe Bronco 78

Post by [HBW]22 »

I decided to just keep my 92 bronco as my daily driver and buy this 78 bronco as my desert truck.

Engine:
351m
Headman headers

Suspension:
Four link front and back
14 inch race runner coil overs
Fox bump stops

Drivetrain:
4 speed manual trans
Danna 44 front
9 inch rear

Others:
Fully caged front to back
Three seats
Crow 5 points

And probally alot more that I am forgetting, it crawls and goes fast that's why I like it. Plus I think it's a pretty cool truck for an 18 year old to own.

Cool truck.

All those pictures need to be re-sized. They're way too big.

Well i thought I would give a much needed update on my truck.

I ditched the front four link and went to a custom track bar set up with heims. We also redid the shock towers and put 14s up front instead of the 16s it had.

New shock towers

Also I started to truss the front axle and got heims to make extended radius arms.

Bedlined everything and repainted everything

After redoing the front end we where not completely satisfied so we are going to redo it.
We need the track bar to be longer so we are going to have to make some crazy mounts. We also are going to redo the front towers and put bypasses up front too. Also we are going to extend the radius arms and run heims.

Here are pix of it at terra del sol

Flex test, The front needs different coils its too stiff.

So after the first weeknd crawling it I was very pleased how it performed. But the next weeknd we took it to ocotillo to test it going fast.
It worked great going fast considering the shocks are not setup yet. We could hit whoops at good speed and it would just cruise over them but we need to set up the shocks for sure. But now for the bad news the motor blew up.... so no picts of it going fast.

But now for the build

ford 429 and c6 tranny

Started tearing it down, its a mess

The plan on the motor build is to bore it .30 over I got the whole rotating kit for it. It has dv3e heads so I don't know if I'm going to redo those and port them or if I'm going to get SCJ aluminum heads. Going to put a hydraulic cam in it, headers, intake and I want to make it efi too but that might be later. Overall I want to have around 500 HP.

Other plans for it is to redo the whole inside cage to pass MDR tech and get the interior done. Also we are going to do some work on the rear three link and put bypasses back their too. The goal is to race it in MDR 1450 in two years.

Hey cdn Bronco glad to see another solid axle gofast bronco out their! And for the 460 I think i will be using headman headers and for the truss I have not finished it yet but I am going to plate the gap between the axle and the truss, I will post picts when i finish it.

Okay I have a couple updates on the truck.

I found a 351m in a truck that runs for $100 so I decided to wait on the 460 swap and just throw the 351m in for the season.

What it looked like when I got it.

What it looks like now. I am re sealing the whole thing and just got to finish putting it back together.

And new shocks I picked up at the swap meet today!!

Just a little update not much but its moving a little.

The motor is all ready to go in but I am going to put it in after we finish the front suspension.

Cut the rear fenders off and cut all the floor out, now just got too wait to get glass for it and mount the fenders.

And next week I am hoping to start on the new front end.

The plan is.
-Custom extended radius arms with heims.
- New panhard bar that is longer and has the correct angle so no more bump steer.
-all new engine cage
-And I am putting 3.0 4 tube bypasses up front too.

looking awesome, but I would get the cage all painted the same color. I am kinda anal that way though, and wish my motor plans included 500hp.

Overall it has got many upgrades you cant really see. I have done a 3g alternator swap and am in the middle of re wiring the whole bronco. Also all the mounts are new including motormounts, trans mount, body mounts etc. I am also gathering parts to redo the whole brake system and make the rear brakes disc. I am sure I am forgetting tons but it is getting their!

Also got some glass for the front- 92 conversion.
