I ain't no baller. Heck, I wasn't even going to use a new strut. I planned to use one destined for the trash can!ChaseTruck754 wrote:Be a baller Steve - make it a linear actuator!

My issue with the gas struts is they give out quickly. Installing a used one could make for a very short life span. But again free is free & I'm always cheap - so yeah - it works!

Re: SteveG's 84
A limit strap would be easiest but it would only keep the carrier from over extending and not actually hold it open. Some struts hold up pretty well. It wouldn't really be holding any weight like a typical application, so even a cheap or worn out unit should work fine.only1mikey wrote:How about a limit strap? Very true Steve. I might try and add something to mine if I find the time. Million things to do, hard to prioritize them all.

Good call Steve, I open hoods on random cars all week (for other reasons than wrenching) but I'm always really impressed with how many older/beat up cars that had the hood struts still stay open. I'm always thinking I'm gonna hit my head, yet again but a ton of the GM ones seem to work really good. Those are the ones that stand out in my mind anyways.

Nope. Most people trash them. As I said earlier, though, Kris' seems to have held up well with minimal modifications, so I'm going to give it a shot.robertcrav wrote:is there a thread somewhere that has spare tire swing mods/ideas?

Come on, Grasshopper. Do I really need to point out the absence of a carburetor?

You swapping to fuel Injection? If so, are you going speed density or Mass Air?

Haha! Ooops. I thought you had blown the upper intake off at the drags or something. Forgot about the efi swap. That being said...COOL!!SteveG wrote:Come on, Grasshopper. Do I really need to point out the absence of a carburetor?

The engine will remain stock, so there's no advantage to using a Mass Air flow system. SD also eliminates the need for an expensive MAF sensor.Agui-E7TE wrote:You swapping to fuel Injection? If so, are you going speed density or Mass Air?
Three other reason is MAF was never offered on a C6 equipped Bronco, so SD is a must for smog purposes.

Re: SteveG's 84
Oh, I didn't think of that, looks like an awesome upgrade to me especially on such a clean brick nose.
Forgot to ask, is that an 351 HO in that? I remember driving an old brick nose Bronco when I was 16, and it had a 351 HO and seemed to have more power than the later 5.8L EFI motors.

Mine is a late model 5.8L roller motor with less than 5,000 miles on it.Agui-E7TE wrote:Forgot to ask, is that an 351 HO in that? I remember driving an old brick nose Bronco when I was 16, and it had a 351 HO and seemed to have more power than the later 5.8L EFI motors.

Re: SteveG's 84
Oh, cool.. that should be a pretty cool setup. Are you going to run a reverse rotation water pump with a serpentine belt or keep the standard rotation with v-belts?
I think the HO I was thinking of was a 4 barrell carb version and was either 84 or 85.
