Hey Willie!

Hope you are well brother!

Wondering if you have an extra one of those Lowrance cheatsheets available?

Also if you have any recommendations on where I can source topo maps that I can load into mine?

Thanks for your help man!

Use the cheat sheet with the manual and it will help a lot.
Switch to any other brand of GPS and you will find the same learning difficulties.

Hey Willie,

Thanks for bumping this thread and helping great ready for next season.

I have one of the dinosaurs the Globalmap Baja540C- but it's been super useful in the few spots I've used it so far.

Shout out to Ollie PBR for hooking me up with a great deal!

Bray the 540c is what you want, as the newest stuff might not take 3rd party mapping. I have not confirmed this .... Paul picture is what I have as well,....Thanks Paul

Agreed. Nothing wrong with your "dinosaur" there Bray. Don't fix what ain't broke. No real need to throw $$ at a newer one. There are some teams that search out & use the older ones as they are so tried & true, guys know how to use them already, etc.

I suspect some one at PCI discovered an error so they took down the link. Has anyone found a glitch in the cheat sheet?

The HDS cheat sheet had big problems. The only one I have fixed so far is how to save a track to and sd.
Never paid much attention to the GolbalMap version because I have been a user for 13 year and never even read the PCI cheat sheet.

Tell me which HDS, what SW version you have. Then tell me what your issue is and I will try to help.

Lots of experience here and I find the “cheet sheet” needs to be enhanced

So here my the Save to SD instructions with all the keystrokes to improve on the PCI CS.
Pages, Pages, Pages, Pages. Scroll to Files, enter
Choose waypoints, routes, trails and trails database, enter. Menu, export, enter
File formats, Choose V5, enter, then choose V2, enter, export, enter
Choose destination, memory card, enter, Menu, OK, enter
New, enter
Now create a logical file name, enter
((help: (Default is the letter (G), use tool to search for more characters when done then do the enter))
Export, enter, choose cancel, enter
(Now you are done)
Exit
Choose Memory card, enter
View to see if the new file exists (use the scroll tool)

Then read the note on the CS. “You are sending ALL the data on the GPS…”
Let me explain how it works.
If you are like me I may take several trips, and each will have waypoints specific to the various tracks.
So, my 4 day trip in the back country in Baja I made a new trail for each day, each with specific waypoints. I am to lazy and most time I do not have time to properly name my WP’s so I have my codriver make notes for a title or name for each WP. Then when I edit my tracks I type in the name. The editing is not done on the GPS – to slow so I do it when I view the file on my computer.
If you have multiple trails you will need to do some editing to get them as standalone files
When you follow the instructions to save to SD, you will get everything in the GPS – waypoints, Icons, and track logs. This means you cannot just delete stuff you do not want from the GPS first. You can delete the track log, but it is very cumbersome to delete waypoints that are not appropriate for the remaining file.
So do not mess with what is on the GPS just save everything then put the SD card in your PC (not Mac) and proceed to do the editing using the application Trackmaker. It is very easy to use, and the app has a PDF manual you can download. Save each file one at a time using the GPS download as the starting point for each new file. You will be surprised how quickly it can be done.
