Re: 2013 baja 500
Fortunately we didn't hit the Expedition that was still in the course on a blind corner at about RM 55. I heard that the first TT (Voss) on the road smacked it head on/RF corner. Looked like it was hit along the sides several more times later on, it was a wreck on wheels by the time we got there. Nobody flagging, no markers, nothing.

I sure had a good time. Nice to see the boys down in Baja. Glad all are home safe and sound.

Here's the lame n shame of it...my cell phone was dead...my wife broke my trusty pocket camera...I left the go-pro at camp and obviously something the dog did, but it puts a big smile on my face every time I see you guys roll by. In fact, I think you came by my camp at El Refugio around 4:45am Sunday? I was laying awake and thought I heard the sound of the Bronco coming down the hill. Jumped up, threw my clothes on and ran outside to see, but it was so foggy I couldn't even see lights.300 wrote:Haha, nobody even had a camera out when we went by!

I was in RM250, you guys drove by around dusk...the exact time i stopped taking photos.....
Usually every race i get a shot or two, but this time I missed you guys.
However, I must say your engine sounds bad @ss!! I never heard it before like that! (Maybe I was sober this time)
keep up the good work

Re: 2013 baja 500
Yes, 4:45 would have been about right, we finished about 0630. Mentioned the place as we drove by, don't usually get to see it in the light from that direction. That is about where the fog layer was and it was so heavy it was more like a light rain. The top light bar collects the stuff and then it drips down through the open window. I know, you guys are feeling sorry for us........yikes wrote:Here's the lame n shame of it...my cell phone was dead...my wife broke my trusty pocket camera...I left the go-pro at camp and obviously something the dog did, but it puts a big smile on my face every time I see you guys roll by. The current engine is still a work in progress, and won't pull very well above 4500 rpm. It should do a lot better, just have to work on it as time allows.

Thats a great video, just goes to show you dont always need 4x4 but it sure is handy. Road block cleared at the 12min mark. Good job finding a way out Rick!

Re: 2013 baja 500
It just amazes me that the limited guys can't figure out how to get up that hill. The road was full of lawn chair sized rocks that had either been rolled into the road or knocked there by the unlimited traffic. A few minutes spent rolling them out of the way and they would have been fine. Guys either won't get out of their cars or just stand there dazed. They certainly get all excited when you pull out and drive around them on the shoulder, just like on the freeway. Rick had to do some fast talking to convince those truck guys to let us drop down in front of them (and I do mean DROP, it was like a 4' ledge). There was mention elsewhere of the 802 guys not letting anyone else around them. Rick was certainly huffing and puffing when he got back in, the video just does not do justice to the elevation or terrain. The one place we race that we actually use the still functional low range. Having the hand held radio in that situation is SO helpful, certainly a testament to the fact that we have been in that situation before.

Re: 2013 baja 500
Ramming that Baja bug up the hill was classic. It was worth the hike even in the heat.
I read that thread about the 802. Not cool if true. Would have had to head butt him and run for it. I thought I left all the thugs back in Stockton.
Video also shows the need for the golf carts to move over when caught. They're just asking for it.

Showing 'em how it's done! Was that the 802 that you dropped down in front of? Guess it must have been later, but I read they put on quite a tantrum! I agree Don, a little rock rolling would make a huge difference on that hill and many of them sit in their cars waiting??? That video is exactly why I'd rather have a 4x4 prerunner.

Re: 2013 baja 500
The 802 was in line behind that polka dot 200 class (turbo V6) truck that we dropped in front of. You could just see it in the video as we crawled past.

300, the climb to the the summit gave alot of grief to some cars. What about the climb from Mike's south to Coyote?
Any kind of bottle neck or cars in the way on that uphill?

Re: 2013 baja 500
I was driving that section and it was really clear. We stopped and pulled out a chase truck that was towing a dead trophy truck. (Nuckles?) Next offered to pull out a class 5 that drove into a hole next to the road but he wanted to give his co dog a chance to find somebody on foot??? We pulled another 5 car out of a similar hole later on the coast. Luckily the road from Uruapan to Ojos was clear(except for the cant see past the hood fog). That can be ugly when cars are stuck in there.

Re: 2013 baja 500
Team mate Craig is responsible for the camera and the videos, and I do thank him! There are a couple more up now from him on his account, however I have not had time to watch them yet. Dan and I were talking about the section (rm45 or rm55) where the TT went head on with the spectator Expedition. It was on a completely blind corner and it was still there in the middle of the road when we got there! It was a mess, the RF was toast, but it looked like numerous cars had gone down the side of it and just pounded in the sides. I know that it was all over Weatherman, but there was absolutely no markers or flaggers or even spectators to warn you that it was there. You ALWAYS have to be on your toes.BajaF250 wrote:300 wrote:The 802 was in line behind that polka dot 200 class (turbo V6) truck that we dropped in front of.
