2012 Baja 1000

Post by yikes »

Woohoooo!! What a blast! Had an absolutely awesome time. The trip was just too short. Thinking about driving back down for a week. Thanks to all of you for hanging back at the Tallier while I got my junk analyzed. Sorry for the tour of Ensenada sur. Will get some pictures up in a while.

Looks like Dave didn't make it too far. Anyone have some news on his status?

That thing looks like a TT taking off! I never heard what happened other than looking for ball joints and leaking p.s. fluid.

Sounds like one too! He came by us a bit slow in Ojos. Way behind the other 8's.

I want to give a big thanks to my good friend Dale McCue for being my sugar daddy for the trip. I was wined and dined, but treated with respect. Love you man! Haha! Good food. Good people. Good times! We're talking seriously about a B500 effort in the Bronco for 2015. He's doing the '13 & '14 500's on a bike, with a solo attempt in '14. In '15 he's going to grab the right seat and guide us to a C3 finish. Sounds like a long ways out, but it will come fast and it's a realistic target. I plan to pre-run the entire course the next two years and get as familiar as possible with it.

OK. I zoomed in on Iritrack and it appears as though Dave's Bronco is parked at a resort in San Felipe. I wonder what happened besides the steering box.

Read this from the baja 1000 thread

Re: 2012 SCORE Baja 1000

GUNIT update
Steering box seal let go north of the goat trail. Lost all the fluid they had. Got more from Checkerpit limped to the PMEX at Valle Trinidad where the met Chase. Proceeded to BFG pit at Borego spent some time then limped to a motel south of Eldorado Ranch. They are still there at 8AM Friday.
The other issue was loose ball joints. No update if the replaced them with new units in the chase truck. The spare steering box was down south.
The power steeering pump operates the hydroboost, ram and the steering box.
They had lots of virtual help from Weatherman, SCORE relay. Real help from Checker pits, and BFG pits. All I did was discuss the events with Dave.
