GONE FISHIN! - - AKA: THE CAMPING THREAD

Post by yikes »

Admin Edit: We thought it would be cool to see pictures and reports from random camping trips we take. Off-road related or not. Brian's "Gone Fishing" thread was merged into this thread

Show us where you go where you've been.

End Edit

Went camping with the family for a few days up at June lake. The East side of the Sierras has always been my favorite playground and it had been way too long since we've been out to play. What a great time it was. Just enough to make me want more. Much needed R&R after a really tough year. Here's a few shots from the trip.

Campground was made for city folks, but it was clean and quiet. Like the washtub? Would be good in the back yard.

Jose got his first fish.

This was just before I opened the door. That bowl of ice felt great after a hot shower. Yeah right!

Check out the steeker.

Rained for an hour or so Monday afternoon.

That looks great! Washer tubs are killer for fires.

What do you think about a general camping report thread where everyone can all post pictures of random trips?

That sounds like a good idea. It'll keep us all motivated to get out there and do something!

Looks like a good time Brian! I hit Virginia Lakes (45 min or so North of June) with a couple buddies a month or so ago. LOVE the high sierras and your pics make me want to go back already.

Here's a few shots from our trip.

View from our campsite
Image

They weren't much - but they tasted good!
Image

Fresh caught trout cooked over the campfire with bacon and wild scallions stuffed inside. GOOD stuff!
Image

Another lake we hiked up to. Those rocks look tempting to a fool like me...
Image

The water was cold as there still was some snow on the ground - but those high rocks and beautiful lake we too much for me to resist!

Haha! Woohooo! Awesome Steve. You got more macho than I do. No way I'm getting in that water this time of the year. Those first two fishn shots I posted were at Virginia. We didn't hike to the others, but sure would have liked to.

Looks like a good time Brian. I love that area. I did a job up there years ago and camped at June lake for a whole summer while we worked on Highway 395. I loved it there so much I never went home that entire summer. There are a lot of sights to see in that area. Good times.

Thanks for the memories.

Thanks guys, for validating (as if I need it haha) why I chose to move to Mammoth/Bishop years ago and why I'll probably never move away. Let me know when you're coming up and if you have any issues, I'll help out any way I can. Also, have some great offroad routes I can let you in on.

Lucky bastard! One of these days I'll remember you're in the area. Hopefully not when I'm in dire need. Haha! Hey, I heard Funnel Lake up by Coyote Peak was closed. Say it isn't so. Bad enough that they killed all of the fish. What a strange experience it was...wake up the first morning there, ready to hit the pond and it's dead silence. Haha! The fishing was great at Rocky Bottom though. I haven't been up there in 3 years or so and I'm dying to get back though. Been going since the 70's. I really want to do a trip to the White Mountains next year too.
