Vintage Air has units to replace the big box. They have units that have heat, defrost alone and even with AC that fit under the dash.BigCrunch wrote:I want to get rid of the AC box but keep heat\defrost capability, some suggestions for those have done it.

Haven't personally done it, but been been around the 70's stuff enough to see it be done. Best way I think is to get a standard heater core box from another truck & swap them out. Just then make a plate to fill the huge home in the firewall from the stock AC box.
Nostalgia Air Products also makes an AC kit that is the same size as the stock heater box, so you don't have that huge AC box in the engine compartment, but the thing is $$$
