Smith Racing 1450 TTB Ranger
Well guys we still have the bronco for now, but the new toy is a 1987 ford ranger ext cab 4x4. The plan's for the ranger is to put D44 beams on the front out of a fullsize bronco or f-150 so we can still have 4 wheel drive, the motor is going to be a 302 with a couple of modifications and the trans is probably going to be a C4 or a C6 if you can bolt one up to it, and no more leaf springs for us, after racing the big bronco for a while we are not even thinking about them and were going straight to linking it, and were probably going to use a 9 inch I had from a 78 parts bronco I got a year ago. Tire size is probably going to be 35 or maybe 37. The front clip is going to be a one piece fiberglass clip, and the rear to fiberglass fenders. Most of the parts used for this build is either going to be pulled from the junk yard like the ttb and maybe other things, or are just parts I have laying around the house from other builds, or will just be bought used, because I dont have the money to buy all new stuff. We are going to be doing all the fab work just like we did to the bronco and hopefully when its done it will be flying through the desert, but still be reliable.

Well her she is. This is the way we got her, no motor, trans, bed, or front clip, which I liked because I dodnt half to take all that stuff off. We went to the junk yard today and found a good truck to pull the ttb from, which it has 4.09gears and right next to it was a econoline van with a 302 and c6 so were planning on making a trip next weak to pull the ttb and motor later on and the ttb is out of a 95 f-150.

You are going to want a c-6 that is set up for 4x4, i would probably run a bw 1356 t-case.

c6 can be converted of course. You just have to take the thing all the way apart as the tailshaft has to be swapped & I'm told that's the last thing to come out.
Looking forward to seeing this come together

Also if you are going with fuel injection, I would try to find something with MAF, and get the computer and harness, as you can get away with some substantial motor mods, where as Speed Density does not like non stock cams, and altered displacement.

I have a holly pro-injection I was going to put on the bronco but never did so I was going to put it on the 302, and has a rating up to 500 horse power, I have a 205 that was hooked up to a big c6 that I wanted to bond to the small c6, and I know I will half to make brackets.

Nice.
I am working on my roll cage right now, I wish your brother was down here helping me! I got the A-pillars bent, and b-pillars cut, I have the mounts made, and holes drilled.

it's really an un-bolt and go type thing. You will figure it out as you go, and if you're ever done anything with a truck you'll be fine. So yeah, based on what I've seen with the bronco you'll be fine.
Rad arm bolts (I leave attached to the beam), bolt at the coil (I typicall undo coil from bucket & leave coil on beam) and then the beam bolts & driveshaft bolts at pinion are the majors. Aside from that it's pretty much brake lines. The whole assembly can drop free with minimal taking apart actually.

Well we made the trip to you junk yard, with my son, so we found a candidate for the ttb. The vehical was a 1993 ford f-150, and this one still had the manuel locking hubs wich was unusual, since there always torn apart, the only thing I dont like is it has 3.56 gears but I guess I cant be picky and I will just put higher gears in.

Re: Smith Racing 1450 TTB Ranger
NIce! are you guys going to do a cut and turn on those beams?
I have read a little about it, and I believe there is a thread on here somewhere, and pretty much all you do is extend the lower balljoint location about 3/4". You will need to clearance the passenger side axle joint to get the most travel you can. Do you have any idea how much wider the d44 beams are compared to what was on the ranger?
