BFGoodrich Tires once again gave us the honor of designing the BFG Pit Crew shirt which we have done many times before. Thanks to Frank DeAngelo and Chad Fryman for letting us be a part of this project. Here's the original artwork, the final t-shirt design being finished at Ntense Tee's. It's neat to think that there will be 200 BFG volunteers at the 1000 all wearing a shirt with our hot rod bronco on it.
Frank gave us a couple shirts and some stickers with the artwork. Looks great but I might be biased.

Notice Rory even got our race number correct. He asked me a couple months ago what our number was going to be.
Never asked why but now I know.

At one point we were not even going to race this 1000 when funding collapsed but we pulled out of the nose dive and will take the green in class 8.
No leaf springs this race. We put the leafs on the shelf and only plan to put them back on the truck if there is a large amount of leaf spring class 3 trucks to race.
Hopefully the leaf spring requirement goes away and everyone can run coilovers in class 3. Imagine springs that last decades instead of 1 or 2 races!

BTW, we do not even get any free tires from BFG and yet they have our bronco in their TV commercial and now on their shirts!
Hmmmm. Guess we have to actually win something instead of just looking cool.

I wear a large. Great design. How do us folks who aren't going to the 1,000 going to get one?

BFG does a custom crew shirt every year for the 1K and this years is hands down the best one ever. Classic Wardy art especially with the shout out to Class 11.

None of the guys in the BFG pit in San Ignacio were wearing the shirt. Probably saving them for a cleaner day LOL........

Team Honda always gave us two shirts. One to trash in the pits and a nice bowling shirt for contingency or other events.

Been a while since last update. So besides getting our asses kicked around baja by the Moss Bros, we have been upgrading and rebuilding our class 3.
We last ran it in the 50th Baja 1000 in Nov 2017. Prior to that race we did a full teardown, mag checked and rebuilt everything. Last minute we dropped in a new 460 small block crate engine after our 427 was ruined (another story).
Anyway we never rejetted the carb after the engine swap and found out during the race that whenever the filter got dirty (like ALL the TIME), it would run so rich that it would pop and backfire and barely run.
Bottom line is we could not open the secondaries on the carb. Oh well, it still worked good at half throttle. We had a decent run going until one of the driving teams had an issue with a flat and a jack not working.
Moss got by us again. That team arrived at the road crossing very late. We swapped in a fresh air filter and sent them off. Then the next team got in and at some point just outside El Datil, the rear wishbone tore out.
And it took out the engine oil cooler lines, the tranny lines, the fuel lines, and generally bent up lots of stuff. We went in with a welder and some raw materials but it was not fixable.
We short looped the plumbing enough to run the engine to get it to a trailer. Dragged it home and put it under the tarp of shame for 6 months.

So the wishbone that broke (the upper 3 link) was fabricated with a bushing at the front and double wrapped in two concentric tubes.
Originally we conceived of this project as having 300hp, 35" tires, and 2.5" Bilstein shocks. Now it has almost 600hp, 37" tires, 4" 5-tube Fox shocks etc.
We have had to redesign and rebuild almost everything on the truck starting with the front end. Well the last of the original build was the trailing arms, 3-link.
Upon inspection we saw the inner tube that held the bushing had been cracked for some time but was masked by the outer wrap we put on it. So the mag check prior to the 1000 did not see the inner sleeve was already cracked.
Do over. We have now built new 3-link wishbone using 1.5" uniballs, wide body up front. And we rebuilt the lower links to also use 1.5" uniballs. No more bushings on the car.
Took it to the desert and it worked same as always. Next we dyno tuned the new 460 and picked up 40hp and it should now run with a dirty filter. Huge change in tune.
Now onto the details. We built a new engine breather system that will stop the leaky mess we always had from the breathers on the valve covers. But int the process we pulled the valve covers to Tigin AN fittings.
Then upon reinstall broke off a bolt in the cylinder head. Many weeks working on that (for us working guys 1 week = a few hours on a Saturday unless bumped by Honey-Do's). OK finally fixed and good bolts swapped in.
I think it's about ready to go. The to-d list is now down to stuff like patch a torn fiberglass fender (we finally made a good steel body and made molds so we can race with fiberglass).
And we have a linear motor to make our wing aileron go up and down at the touch of a switch (we hear the chicks dig this).
And if we run out of stuff to do, it's time to upgrade the brake calipers to something designed for the radius of our large diameter rotors.
Our next outing will be NORRA 2019 in April.

Hey Chris! It's good to hear from you. I've always loved your Bronco (this one and the old one). I saw the Bronco at the 1000 last year and was going to introduce myself but didn't see you.

We (work) just bought your dad's old Bronco and, schedule permitting, are hoping to race NORRA with it and a Class 11 next year... hope to see you there. Keep us posted on the progress with this build.

Steve - didn't Bondo Bob have the stretch? Has he moved on to another project?
