At the crack or at the wheels? That's damn impressive if it's at the wheels.

looking good as always. Every time I see your crap I'm reminded I need to learn solidworks. My 2d cad gets it done but I could do so much more if I spent the time learning SW.

I sit behind the stupid glowing box doing 2d cad for work so I'm stuck here 40 or so hours a week. Therefore I'm quicker drawing my stuff up on cad than making cardboard templates most of the time.

Hey Guys,

I started the console tonight. I won't take it any further until I can get it in the truck to test fit it. I am going to make it bolt in so I can do as much of the wiring as possible before I install it. My plan right now is to run the master switch, a terminal strip, all my switches, the radio, and the shifter in the console. I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on running two solenoids in the console rather than on the chassis somewhere? My thoughts being if one fails I can hook up to the backup right in the console.

Put a Nippon Denso (Toyota) gear reduction starter on it and just use a standard Bosch relay to isolate it if needed.

Weighs less, more reliable, and takes less amps to crank.

Everyone makes these now. The only thing that ever wears out is the contacts inside. $7 to fix.

Not a bad idea.

I like backups, but a backup starter solenoid seems a little much. Just buy a good one and do a good job wiring it (a given). They really don't fail very often. I don't know how many Fords with fender mounted solenoids I've owned, but I've only replaced one and it ended up being good.

If you use the flat type with all the posts pointing in the same direction, should it (or crank signal from your ignition switch) fail, you can jump the two big posts with a screwdriver or any other metal tool.

Hey Philo, I can get this through my distributor for a little cheaper, but I want to make sure it is the same thing as you are recommending. Can you take a second and check it out?

Thanks!

Yep, same thing. If you ever need parts for it (other than nose cone and bendix gear) get parts from an 80s/90s 22RE Toyota starter. The contacts are the only thing to go out and you can usually spin one of them in a pinch to get it going.
