I was feeling nostalgic and looking through old build threads from when I was an annoying 14 year old and figured I would provide you guys with a quick life update since the last time on here was 2014.

In summer 2014 we raced the ‘79 Stock Truck for the last time, in Bark River. I sold the truck to fund my Super Stock build to a friend in 2015 but he raced it once and it’s been parked since. Here’s a couple shots from out last race in ‘14

I did not race in 2015, besides some “testing” in a buddies Super Truck/Pro2 at Fall Crandon. This thing was an absolute riot to wheel around Crandon.

Which brings me to our current race truck. In 2014 we “rebranded” as NineZeroSixRacing, and I bought our current chassis - a 2012 U-Weld Chevrolet.
It took me roughly a year to get the series to allow this truck in the Super Stock class due to the front end using coil overs. TORC / USAC gave us the go ahead to build it June of ‘16, and we hustled it together for the July Bark River race that same year.

That was the only race we ran in ‘16, we attempted a full season in ‘17 but missed a few rounds due to engine failures and budget issues.

Last year came around and we headed into it with a really fast truck, but bad luck bit us again when we lost a motor in pre season practice. We bought a motor from Comp Products in Wisconsin for our first round in Crandon and blew it up 4 laps in. 2 motors blew our chances for that season, and we decided to hang it up, but came back for Fall Crandon with a real motor and a new engine builder and ran hard, with our last race ending up with a smoked trans. Another awful year of luck in ‘18. Here’s some pictures of the new truck.

The chassis when I purchased it in ‘15

We’re beginning prep for the ‘19 season now. Some of my pictures wouldn’t upload from being too large so these are just the quick updates, I’ll try to keep the thread up and active if you guys would like to see more.
Ill toss an update up about Alex, the driver of the old 400 Bronco as well. He’s still racing too.

Holy crap, 5 years... I’m old now! Lol.

More details on that Chevy chassis. Is it a tube frame with factory fit suspension?

Beck, it’s a 2012 Chevy 1500 2wd shortbox chassis. Per rules in our class we must have stock framerails, crossmembers and stock firewall/floorboards.
Our class is super limited, here’s a quick run down of the specs:
Stock lower A-arm, custom uppers with stock spindle. King 3.0 race series factory coil overs. Daystay stinger bumpstops. (real coil overs and hydro bumps are not allowed)
Three sixty something cubic inch small block chevy, vortec heads, a bunch of weird stuff to make power around our strict rule book. Dynos high 300’s at the crank through a holley 2bbl and restrictor plate. Built by Bobs engines and transmissions out of Black Creek Wi
TH400, Dynamic Converter
Sparco seat
Big coolers
Deaver leafs with a stock length shackle.
Kuster 3.0 shocks
Schreiner full float 9”
Strange third, spooled, mid 6’s for gearing.

Those are the basics. Pulls about 9” in the front and 12” of travel in the rear. Our rules limit us at 12”.
The truck competes with mostly all twin I beam fords and older A-arm chevrolet’s. This is the newest truck in the class chassis wise, by about 10years or more. U-Weld build the chassis, and did a greet job designing and TIG welding it. It’s way too nice for us but we are having a blast racing it

I apologize for the terrible spelling and grammar, I’m doing these on my phone and can’t figure out how to go back and edit them lol.

Also, i’ll try to get some chassis pictures up. A lot of the pictures I try to upload give me the too big error

Absolutely good to see the updates and that you are still going after it!

There is certainly a learning curve that has to be suffered through to get things where they are reliable, and there are no short cuts even if you somehow have a box car full of money to work with. When you do find those vendors and shops that will work with you, treat them like gold!

Well we finished up our 2019 season.
I ran another year of a limited schedule due to a new job, prepping a house to sell, purchasing property and life in general.
Our “failed trans” last year at Fall Crandon turned out to be a converter failure. Luckily in prepping before our first race (for us) in Bark River, we figured that out and Mark at Dynamic Converters got us fixed up right away.
We rolled into Bark River super excited about the weekend, first lap out i went way to wide and tried passing on the outside, bit a berm and rolled the truck about 4 times. The chassis and safety equipment held up wonderfully and I popped out without a scratch. The crew had the truck tore down and we had it ready to race on Sunday. Sunday we started dead last in the field (24th) and raced up to 7th i believe. After rolling the truck hard we were all pretty proud of that finish.

After are Bark River we set our sights on to the big one, the 50th Anniversary at Crandon. We had a great weekend, from the parade to the Kid Rock concert, Crandon pulled out all the theatrics for this weekend.

Due to rain / Crandon wanting to cancel our races on Friday night so the Pros could have more practice time, we negotiated a 6 lap or 12 minute (whatever came first) shootout on the short track, no cautions sprint race. We started deep in the pack in around the 23rd position, and in 6 short laps battled up to 8th place for the finish.
Saturday was the land rush start, full course race. We again started in 23th position, battled up to 6th or 7th before a Dodge guy started to over rotate and took me with him. I bumped all the way back to last only to eventually suffer a flat tire. The crew in hot pits hauled ass and changed the flat after running 2 or 3 laps waiting for a caution and got me out on the lead lap. After all the drama we came home in 11th place. Not what I wanted but not the worst weekend we had racing.
The suspension on the truck was absolute trash, and we’ll be doing some work to it this offseason to correct that, along wjth the awful handling characteristics the truck as devolved.
Here’s another photo dump from all the festivities in Crandon.
The other blue and black Ford that races with me is a good friend of mine, Joey Knight, who bought the truck last season from a friend of ours and has been racing with us since we started our stock truck in high school. The truck is an 85 f150 which was built by Geoff and Mitch Dorr in about 2010.
