The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Good call on the switch panels, I didn't even think of that. That would be pretty slick. I already did the switch panel to the left of the stereo, so that ship has kind of already sailed for me, but that would be pretty awesome. I'm still chasing some gremlins with the subwoofer and would like to get that dialed in, but next up is a Punisher valve body and aluminum trans pan. Can't wait to try out the Punisher.

Couple questions- how robust is this setup? Does it retract? My plan is a similar mount for my Lowrance and just like to hear if the dash flexes much.

Head unit is stationary...doesn't retract. I haven't noticed the display moving during on-road driving, but the display itself is fairly thin. Most of the weight is in the portion that slides into the single-din opening of the dash. If there is substantially more weight in your Lowrance unit, you may run into issues with the dash flexing.

That truck is looking great! Punisher has those valve bodies dialed. Whenever I get asked about what upgrades to do first from new guys I always say a punisher and rear locker. Keeps the trans happy and the power down!

Agreed...so far I'm really happy with the upgrade. Way more noticeable than I thought it was gonna be.
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I just wrapped up a little subwoofer mounting project. I remember back to my high school days when I had a sub put in and the installer just ran some screws right through the carpet and back wall of my cab, and vowed never to let that happen to this truck, so had to make a little MDF mounting rack that would attach to the double wall portions of the cab. A few well placed nut-serts and bingo bango.
I took it over to the same guy that upholstered my steering wheel for a quick and dirty wrap with some trunk carpet. The perfectionist in me is a little bummed the carpet ended up a shade lighter than my OEM carpet, but it's behind the seat, so I'm over it.

Damn that head unit is nice. I really wanted to go with it, but the price tag dissuaded me. There are a couple Chinese versions that only do android auto, but im an iPhone guy for life.

Yes! I love my punisher. The shifts are so much faster, it kind "blips". Just wait till you have more miles on it and the controller learns up, gets even better.nubreed71 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 4:50 pmPunisher valve body installed, and pretty trans pan to top it off. I had a valve body on my '94, but that was an AOD-E, so the valve body was from Broader Performance, and I have to say, the difference is a lot more noticeable with the Punisher. I'm loving the nice firm shifts!
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Definitely not a cheap head unit, but I dug around for awhile and was able to find an open box unit for $450, so in the grand scheme of things, I could live with that. So worth it.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
That’s not a bad price at all.
Do you mind if I ask how much the steering wheel re-wrap set you back?
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I think it's sorta dependent on what options you choose for material, stripe, stitching, etc... but figure somewhere in the $400 range. Definitely not cheap, but I figured by the time I bought a hub adapter, wheel, etc... I'd be close to that, and would still have to mess around with retaining cruise control, etc...

Figured you'd eventually do the bumper. Looks good!
