The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Thanks for the kind words! Having built the 94 F1, that's given me a pretty clear roadmap for this one, so hopefully it will help me avoid unneeded expenses, as well as help me avoid from taking it way too far.
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
How much did the rewrap cost or did you do it yourself?
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I definitely did not do the steering wheel re-wrap myself. I was referred to the guy that did it from my normal upholstery guy, since he doesn't mess with steering wheels. Hit up @ap_upholstery on IG and he can run you through pricing since it's different depending on what options you want. It's not cheap, but totally worth it IMO since you touch the steering wheel 100% of the time you're in the vehicle.

WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE?!?! Do you thin it would fit a 94+ wheel? I've been thinking about painting mine, but that's 1000000x better. I love all the little details, it's how i try to build my stuff too.

Looking good brother...It's going to be amazeballs just like the last one...I love the skid plate behind the bumper.
let me know if it gets lonely and wants to be reunited with it's bumper friend, hahahaha

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Haha, thanks guys! I got these logos @ the junkyard. They came on some non-airbag steering wheels on the 92-96 trucks. Usually F-250/F-350. They have three little prongs on the backside that stick through the steering wheel and you can just pry em off. Assuming you have a non-airbag wheel, you can access the backside of the horn cover, and just cut a few slits for the prongs to poke through. Push em through, and bend them over on the backside of the cover to hold the logo in place. Piece of cake!
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I forgot to add, if you have an airbag wheel, and can't access the backside of the cover, you could probably just cut the prongs off the back, and superglue this on there.

That's what i'll have to do, as i have an airbag wheel. Love the little details like this. That's what makes a build complete.nubreed71 wrote:I forgot to add, if you have an airbag wheel, and can't access the backside of the cover, you could probably just cut the prongs off the back, and superglue this on there.

Thanks! Same with yours. I was geeking out super hard on your console project and how you mounted the amp and all the other stuff in there. I swear I get just as much enjoyment, if not more enjoyment out of little detail stuff than I do the really big stuff.
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
Well, I'm glad this is done. What a pain. luckily I had enough sound deadener left over to do the back wall of the cab up to the rear window.
Even though my carpet didn't look bad, the brown water running off of it when I power washed it told a different story. Still waiting to get it all dried out, but once I do, I'll slap that back in the truck and the interior will be in pretty good shape. The plan at some point down the road will be to replace the stock front seats with some PRP recliners, and get the center seat/rear bench reupholstered to match the PRP's.

Awesome!! The sound deadened helped big in mine.
I’ve been thinking of getting extra material from PRP and reupholstering my center console armrest, and the perforated portions of the door panels to tie in the PRP upholstery.

Great call on redoing the perforated portions on the OEM door panels. Check out @motorator on IG. He's got an OBS Lightning where he did that to his door panels and they turned out really nice.
Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I also wanna do the same head unit that he did in his Lightning. This loos cool as hell.

I really like that Alpine HU as well. Have you seen the double din retrofit kit that OBS Interiors does? Opens up a lot of options, like the crazy clean Pioneer DMH CC5500NEX , or the Pioneer MVH 1400NEXnubreed71 wrote:I also wanna do the same head unit that he did in his Lightning. Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I did see their retrofit kit as well. Looks cool for sure, but once I saw the ILX-F259, I'm leaning more towards that. Saves me a few bucks not having to buy the retrofit kit, and I also like not having to cut into my dash.
I'll most likely end up doing something similar with my headliner to what @motorator did. Now's the time since the truck is going in for paint/body work and the rear window is gonna come out. Otherwise it'd be a real pain to wrestle the headliner out one of the doors.

Re: The Motley Crue: White '97 OBS Crew Cab Build
I was able to get the interior mostly all put back together on Sunday...what a difference it made power washing the carpet. Feels so much cleaner inside the truck now. Next up I plan to have the headliner/visors redone in light gray Alcantara since the rear window is gonna be off the truck while it has some paint/body work done. Should be way easier to get that outta the truck via the rear window hole vs. one of the doors.
I also was able to finish installing my HID retrofit headlights from Tony (TCM GLX). Wow, what an improvement, not only in appearance over the old cloudy OEM headlight housings, but in light output as well.

It's amazing what a fresh set of headlights, and grille/headlight trim will do for these trucks. I can'y wait til I get it back from body/paint and can pull the bumper trim, polish the front bumper, and then replace the trim with new plastic. Also, I'm dying to get the windshield trim back on there as well. Gotta wait til body and paint is done though...
