Thx-- if I had to do it again-- it's down to a frame at this point-- take it to a reasonable sandblaster- I've got probably $75 I'm wire wheels and cleaners- $200 seems to be a pretty common rate-- wayyy more money ahead going that route and in the end it's a much horrible of a process

. With that said working underneath a spotless body/chassis is so worth the huge SUCK

What did you do/ use on the frame to clean it up before paint? And what did you use to paint it?

The application is roll on and the reason is that spraying is a stupid hard to get in the cracks and tight areas. Use a foam roller and dab with a brush and it flows out really nicely. Of course the overspray is zero especially when the body stays on the chassis. My 96 bronco turned out super nice and the body bolts never were moved.

I wire wheeled it, then scrubbed it with Purple Death Cleaner/dishwashing soap, the lacquer thinner wiped down-- just sandblast it and forget it

If I was going to do it all over I would de-rivet the entire truck. Mainly because on the front main crossmember I had a pretty decent crack. With it all bolted you could "fairly easily" swap or repair the parts. In the stock form you have to kinda sorta weld it 1/4" blind kinda thing. A whole lot easier to paint the individual pieces as well. That's the real thing with cleaning every little part is that you are basically inspecting all the parts at the same time. My main transmission harness is kind of hammered at the plug as well. Sucks but the effort pays off not being stranded in BFE USEXICO

Sandblast it. You won't regret it and it is SO much easier than busting your knuckles with wire brushes, buffs and scotchbrite.

I just looked it up 895 housing with axles is the standard set up. That is a outstanding deal.

It was about $1850 shipped -- that was housing, the longer than the norm axles, perches, the extra wide back brace, 3.5" x 3/8" wall main tube, 5/8" studs, and making the openings in the back brace. Currie would run me right at about $2100 shipped. Personally the Currie back brace is just too narrow on the ones I have seen.

Finished up the 38 gallon gas tank mounting straps. I just wanted to fab up something simple combining the factory parts materials. More importantly its something that looks race inspired

Nicely done - you've achieved it. How did you do the "bead" on the bottom of the strap that goes under the tank. Assuming that was bead rolled? Or is that a second piece of material tacked on top of the main strap & done in a brake?

That's the beauty of it-- the F150 has a 3.25" strap on it that bolts to the frame to hold the tank in place, that piece has the ridge in it to engage the ridge in the tank. I just cut the ends off it to fit into my straps, then I added some 1/4" weatherstripping for insulation. Tacked the factory piece in place. If I wanted a skidplate could easily go in there too but I was being kinda cheap and this ain't no crawler
