Yes, I have been there at the end of a day working on my Bronco over the years. I did my transmission alone once without a transmission jack. I took it out on a Saturday morning, rebuilt it and had it back in that night and running by 9pm. The worst part was bench pressing the Trans, then the transfer case back into place. I hope to pull my 302 out and put a 408 in this summer. We will see....

Wow that's a crazy amount of work for one day. I like to go strong for 4 to 6 hours and I'm done. I love my 408, what kind of motor are you thinking...pump gas?

Ya, that is the down fall of having to drive your toy everyday to work. Fortunately I don't have to do that anymore. It was good practice for pitting in baja. We can swap a Turbo 400 out of a Class 8 truck in 2 hours with 2 guys.

For the Bronco, I am going with GT40 Heads and keep the compression around 9 to 1 range with dished pistons. I have a couple sources I have looked into for a short Block 408 for around $2500 with a custom ground cam spacific to my goal to have it pass smog. Although I may not need to worry about smog for long. I am looking at buying a 11 acre piece of land out near Plaster City, that I can register the Bronco at and there is no bi annual smog required in that area. In that case I want to get a stand alone injection system that is self tuning. I should be able to get 400 - 450 hp maybe more with aftermarket fuel injection. We shall see.

That all sounds great ? is that property off of painted gorge road? I'm down there at Russell Gall's place from time to time. Greg Grosett the owner of Total Performance is also there a lot, he's a wizard with small block Fords. You may want to build your own and I get that, but having him build mine gave me peace of mind.

. Front end is stripped down to parade rest and the beams are at Autofab for a little massage. Now that the beams are out, I can reach the back side bolts on the drivers side engine mounts, remove the mount and replace with Autofab 460 mounts I picked up in Fontana. Thank you Frank! :D Looking for some L&L headers for a BBF

Yes, the land is in that area.

I have built a couple motors and it has always worked out well. The last 302 I put together has lasted 15 years in the Bronco and still runs, just has a stuck lifter. More suspension calls for more power, so time for the 408.

460 and C-6 made it to there new home. C-6 is on the road to John Wood Automotive in the Imperial Valley for a complete rebuild. The 460 is stripped down to a short block to go to Total Performance for the same.

Update: C6 is back from John Wood's , Heads and short block (460) are at Total Performance. Autofab 5" lift front end is 80% complete. Front drivers frame horn is now straight....have a new steering gear from Red Head in Seattle.
Picked up a set of Dodge alloy wheels 17" in Portland. So now I need to paint and assemble front end and wait for engine from Total Performance. That's were I'm at

Old Baja Chase is back from Autofab with a new front end and upgraded brake package. The brakes are off a 1977 and up F350...bigger better and can handle more heat.

One Ton beams and new springs for a 5" lift. may not get a full 5" with a 460 big block, we'll have to wait and see. Four shocks are coming for the front and straps.

The seat was re-upholstered ....I used the original seat that folds forward from both sides for the supercab. The shocks are being made up at Doetsch , double front shocks that can rebuilt and the same single for the rear. I'm also going to use air bags in the back.
