Re: 65 Ford Falcon Squire Wagon
I told myself this year was going to be an easy one. No last minute projects... rear seat belts were the only pre-trip project I needed to get done and that was done a couple weeks ago. All I needed to do was fill the tank, give the car a quick bath and hit the road. Oh Please! That is too easy! I pulled the coils today and hacked off another 1.25 rounds. The front is now officially dumped! I'll check ride-height at work on the alignment rack to see if I need to lower the rear, too. Nothing like the last minute to make big changes!

Sounds like a good reason to skip Kelly's nephew's wedding. Wait better not. Will you guys be there Sunday too?

Dumped and aligned. Still not as low as I'd like but it's getting there.

What heat? Its 82 degrees with a gentle delta breeze.
I'll talk with Kelly. Perfect excuse to skip the wedding. I'll let you know.

And now the gods of carburetion are mad at me. After years of great service, the car has a hesitation on the freeway. 2 days to figure it out.

If the accelerator piston and circuit are OK, then fatten the main jet up a little. I have also found that using a wider than spec plug gap helps, but I have no idea why but suspect it has a lot to do with the E10 gas. You have to richen it up a little manually to make up for the crappy gas. Or just tell yourself it is getting better mileage this way and grit it out........
Rick: I was going to call a mandatory Bronco prep day on Saturday to help you out, but I have two events for two kids at two different places at the same time on Saturday as well.

Re: 65 Ford Falcon Squire Wagon
Hey Don,
The engine feels like it's starving for fuel. The car runs great if you just cruise around. Even on the freeway it runs well unless you stay on the gas for more than a few seconds. When the engine starts to wind up, it loses power. If you keep your foot in it, it comes and goes. If you let off even for a half second and get back into it, it takes off just like it used to....
I put a fuel pressure gauge on it and drove it. It stays at about 9psi at all times even when hesitating. It does seem to bounce a bit in the hesitation but it might have been a product of the engine running poorly and shaking the heck out of the gauge which was mounted to the only partially latched hood. Looking up specs for it now....

Re: 65 Ford Falcon Squire Wagon
Road test....
An early 80's 200 requires 7.5 psi and a pint of fuel in 20 seconds. Mine is above both. Running out of time... I'm calling it good and driving it as-is. I'll toss a spare fuel pump in the car just in case.
There is good news. The front end was super soft after lowering it. The shocks were weak and it just blew through the little bump travel it now has. I'd planned on installing some customer 2.25" shocks I was putting together for it but in the interest of time, I ordered a pair of KYB Gas-A-Just. Holy cow this thing rides great now! I love it! I like them so much I might put some on the rear, too.

Don: Do you think the kids would like to go to a wedding? We could dump them on Kelly and get some prep done after we get back from the car show. A win win for everyone, well, except the kids at the wedding.300 wrote:If the accelerator piston and circuit are OK, then fatten the main jet up a little. Hey Steve slight chance of rain up here Saturday. Don't bother washing the car.
Re: 65 Ford Falcon Squire Wagon
Silly question but did you check pressure before or after that little inline filter in the picture and did you try another filter?

Re: 65 Ford Falcon Squire Wagon
Yea, from that description it really sounds like you are running out of fuel in the carb. I am sure you have checked all the normal stuff like the needle and seat, the filter right at the carb, float level and the float itself, etc. With that kind of pressure, it should be more than adequate. Maybe have someone pressurize the tank a little bit with a rag and an air hose with the top cover off the carb and make sure it flows like crazy when you push the float down? That should be enough pressure to push through the pump. If it doesn't, find the restriction.
