I am very self taught. I read a lot and looked at pictures. I still don't think I can weld when CHO post pictures of his work.dtbback wrote:otter wrote:Thanks man. I wish I had someone teach me. Thanks, It is a huge improvement. You should get some.nubreed71 wrote:Truck looks killer! I'm definitely jealous of that single swing steering...
Your self taught!!! Now I'm really impressed and a little jealous! Your welds are seriously beautiful!

Yeah his work is on another level but yours is nothing to scoff at.

Funny, I think the same thing!otter wrote: still don't think I can weld when CHO post pictures of his work.
I will say your MIG beads posted above blow mine away. I hate my MIG beads so I never use the thing & that just continues the cycle.

Truck looks awesome, really digging the steering. Definitely on the upgrade list for my rig one of these days.

They really are. Except for the issues with the bypasses I am pretty happy with the quality of the FOA'sdtbback wrote:Those are some good looking bumps!

What were the issues with your bypasses? I just bought the 14" version for my underbed set up and I think some oil was leaking out of one of the bypass tubes. The bypass valves are all the way open. But I hoping they aren't leaking.

They messed up the machining on the pistons. The groove that the wear band sits in was not deep enough.

I had to use an engine hoist to extend them!dtbback wrote:Ahh ok. How did you figure that out?

Hahaha. The used pair I picked up have their firm valving stack in them. We had to mount them in a vise to extend them. Then then they seemed to pull in phases. That's due to the bypass tubes, right?

I was told they use a brass wear band and it hangs up on the tubes where they were welded.

So it needs to groove itself as the shocks break in?otter wrote:I was told they use a brass wear band and it hangs up on the tubes where they were welded.

Seems odd they wouldn't run a ball hone or roller burnished through the shock body post welding. Reguardless of wear band material, a burr is a burr and they need to be smoothed. I'd call and ask if there's and post welding machining process like honing or something.

I was also thinking the same thing. We will see when I get them back. I am just ready to get them on the truck.

Let me know what they say. If need be I'll send the pair I have back to get them honed.

You would think they would hone the inside of ther cylinder post tube welding. I hope that's the case.Rmc wrote:Seems odd they wouldn't run a ball hone or roller burnished through the shock body post welding.
