Jose's 2001 f150

Post by crisis88 »

At the request of Nick I'm starting this build thread. ( so he doesn't feel all alone ).

I purchased this truck for my 16 yr old daughter as her dirty vehicle. It came pretty much as you see it. With the exception of a few modifications that I have made.

I guess I'll start from the beginning on how I came about this truck since it's a funny story.

I was originally looking for a ranger. I wanted her to get an explorer cause I always thought it would be cool to build one. But she wanted a ranger.

So while driving home from a job one day, I drove by a little car lot in downtown San Bernardino. No offense to anyone who lives there. But pretty ghetto. I was on this job for a couple weeks and kept seeing this f150 parked towards the back. I could see with my keen eye a bed cage and fiberglass fenders.
I figured it was an employees truck. So I didn't even pay it no mind after I finished that job.

A couple months later with cash in hand. I was driving around looking for the right ranger to buy. And I remembered that little lot had a couple little trucks.
I get on the lot and walk around and I can see that f150 in the back still. Only now I can see the 3"s of dust and spider webs on the tires.
So of course I wander my way to the back and ask the salesman what's up with this "thing". He says they got it a long time ago but could never sell it. They tried and tried but no one was interested.

Long story a little shorter. I talked to the owner and he said if I was really interested in it he would do whatever it takes to get rid of it.

I asked him how much out the door. His response was 10,000. I said no way. The truck was too weird. It would take money to make it normal again. Haha so I countered at 5000. He said 8. And I said 7. I said I'll give him 1000 cash and he has to find a bank to finance the rest. So he did. And we took it home.

It wasn't completely without issues. I found out when I got it home it had a broken spring on the drivers coilover. I got 2 springs at the swapmeet and replaced them. No biggie.
I also found out when I took it get aligned that all 4 uniballs were shot. Replaced those, again not a big issue. Did fluids and it's been good since.

Only thing left to do maintenance wise is to replace fuel pump and sending unit as the sending unit is on the fritz.

So here are the specs and some pics.

2001 f150
5.4
Not sure on the gears but it is geared I would have to guess at least 4:56

It has what CST calls their long travel kit. But it's more mid travel. Fabricated upper and lower arms with uniballs. I believe they used to use fabtech cast spindle.
And a 10" sway away coilover.

Rear is running deaver f49 pack with sway away bypasses.

If the truck is solid with reasonable miles you got a good deal. As I recall they got 4k for that kit. Not including any of the rear stuff or bumpers.

I was just thinking. When she's over this truck in a couple years and I get it back. I'm going to be redoing a lot of interior pieces. Hahaha

I once helped a dude I used to know redo his carpet in a fabtech'd out dodge in leopard hahaha good lord... He was hot shit with the ladies I'm sure. I believe he bought an area rug off the side of the road to do it. My help came in when I told him 3m super 100 spray adhesive. I feel bad now for whoever bought that truck.

I was wondering if anyone knew if I can run 15's on here or are 16's it?
I am planning on standardizing the size of wheels on the bronco and f150.

I want what I take off the bronco to go on the f1.

So I need to find out if I'm getting 15" or 17" methods for the f150.

No edit. I should have said I plan on standardizing the size of tires on both the bronco and f150.

16s are the smallest due to the calipers

That's what I was afraid of.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I'll be switching the bronco and F1 to 17" methods. Both will need tires toward the middle and end of the year.
