Also I noticed that the linkage came with PTFE bushings. No bueno from my past experience. I ordered a set of bronce bushings and a friend is graciously going to mill them down to spec. I am going to give them a shot since I hate the crappy ones the linkage kits come with.

HAha, yeah, I saw one explode as a kid, looked like someone took a shotgun to the shroud and cylinders.

No if you had just gotten a real shroud to go with it............

There isn't anything wrong with the shroud I have. Its been there for 18 years and its never over heated. My dad drove the piss out of it. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I prefer 36HP without the heater outlets. The one like he has does not have the internal vanes to properly direct flow to the 3-4 side. In a light car like that you can get away with a lot, but as the suspension gets better the load on the motor will go up. With crappy suspension you can only take so much of a beating till you have to back out of it.........

On the 36HP shroud, if your not running an internal oil cooler, I like to put a mesh dummy cooler in there to keep the airflow balanced. Also, stock cylinder tins with the deflectors in tact. Super tins on the bottom.........

Funny thing, I have been working on V-dubs for over 20 years. I have never seen a set of thermostat flaps in person. Seems that in sunny SoCal, they were the first thing to hit the scrap pile.

You'd loose the #3 piston if the motor ran too hot. The motor builder laughs at the 36 tin because the rail is so light. He said sure a 5 car but the damn cooler never gets hot.

Did you put those wrist pin circlip eliminators in it? I think pauter makes em. I've never lost a circlip I always blew the heads off first but I hear its a good upgrade when you do the next rebuild.

Got the long gusset in. I'll finish grinding it tomorrow to clean it up. Since this one worked I'll cut the remaining plates out as I need them.

Finished one spindle with all gussets and paint the spindle gusset should keep the flexing down and keep from premature king pin wear.

Picked up some new parts. Well some new some used. Some spring plates which I sanded down and repainted along with torsion bars and supertrapp muffler. Also scored some 930 CV axles complete (swayaway) with forged stub axles for 200.00 new.

Beings the axle shafts were too short I found a set of 300m axle shafts for cheap. They're older swayaway but were only used as mock up and one test run. They were then garaged for a future project that never happened. I cleaned them up and painted them.

Yeah I only need some bushings for the rear motor mount brackets for arms and bolts. The rear should be ready for install here sometime next month.
