Kel Fab 78 CJ5

Post by Kel Fab Creations »

Here's my newest project. 78 CJ5 w/304 and 3 speed w/100,000 on the clock. This was handed down to my wife and I from her dad. He's had it about 26 years. Since 05 its been collecting dust. It ran when parked. On the to do list is all fluids and filters, service bearings, clean/rebuild carb, tj fender flares with reworked front fenders to match, battery, new fuel sender and maybe bigger tank, redo seats, new floor panels, rhino line floor, 4 inch lift springs, wheels and tires from my bronco, fix exhaust that is hitting front axle, fix cracks in frame, get wide track axle for front(rear is already wide track), make new roll cage, get new soft top, new winch(dad wants old one), front and rear bumpers.

If I ever built a jeep I'd want it to look like the one pictured on this page, flat top fenders move to front axel foreward and the rear axel back. But genrite has really great stuff it's just pricey.

I thought about linking with coilovers or just regular coils but for now this is the look I'm after...

Those look nice but too racey for the jeep crowd I'll be taking this out with. Everyone I know has mildly built jeeps so no point in me doing a full blown KOH style rig at this point.

That reminds me I gotta hook u up with my friend joe, he runs around with Larry minor and the hemet jeep club crowd. I'm betting you could get a gang of side work if you get your foot in the door.

Kelly,

My son has a 1985 Jeep CJ7 and though we are running custom Deavers on all four corners we looked at Poly Performance's three/four link kit. Check it out:

That's cool. I didn't know anyone made a kit like that. I may make a kit for mine in the future but for now I think leafs will be just fine. The lift springs out there for these things are cheap compared to the go fast stuff I'm used to. They seem to all flex the same too. Why did u guys go with deavers?
