Agreed! And maybe.

Maybe I will. I'm not sure if I'll use it anyway. It is slightly modified (not really visible) to fit the switch bracket, though.

I got a hair in my ass to work on stuff for the Explorer this afternoon. Rather than buy an add-a-leaf like I'd planned, I cannibalized a leftover long-travel Ranger leaf pack for some home-made add-a-leaves. They ain't pretty but they're already paid for. I think I have enough material in the donor leaf pack to make two more pairs of matching leaves. I'll pull the overload leaf from Explorer and add 4 leaves per side. I don't know how much lift this will give me, but hopefully not more than a couple inches.

I still need to drill them for sliders.

No re-arch. The money I'd spend on that would be better put toward good leaf springs. The additional leaves should be fine for what I'm after. If not, I'll shop for leaves. The good news is I'll have $0 into these. As for the shackle, the stock unit is capable of plenty of travel... no benefit in replacing it with a longer unit. Plus, that would change the pinion angle.

I fixed a machine at deering banjos one time and the owner had a banjo made completely out of a pallet, complete with score marks rusty nail holes ect. He said he made it just to see what it would sound like and if it could even be done. To his surprise it sounded better than his 1000$ banjos... Go figure. So moral of the story is that stuff is great lumber according to the ones the know wood best, and it will outlast your grand kids. Side note I offered him 1000$ for it and he turned it down. I don't even know how to play one but I knew I'd never see another like it, same as that coffee table.

And no I'm not in the market for a 1000$ coffee table

Damn it, man. You had Me going. I'll tell you what. For you, good budy. I make good deal! $500. Delivered! Ha!

I'm supposed to be making a dining room table, too. It'll be fun except for the disassembling of pallets....

I dropped the car off to get a new end put on the antenna cable and was told my like-new antenna is only suitable for a spare so I got a new one. I also got a basic mic to replace the failure prone V8000 unit.

If your original mic looses the PTT switch it's actually an easy repair....

The truth is I don't really know if the originals are failure prone.. going off common opinion of them. I still keep it in the car for programming but I like that the new one has fewer buttons. You know me... simple.

So the PTT button fails? I'm guessing they usually need to be cleaned when that happens?

The one I had failed. Tried to disassemble and clean with PCB cleaner but it still worked intermittently. Soldered a new one in and it was good again. I hear they fail from dirt...

I work on race radio's for teams and I have seen a lot of the stock Icom mics go bad. The internal parts of the micro switch contacts prematurely go bad. Another issue I have seen is the faceplate speaker goes out also. An external speaker is a better alternative and it sounds better.
