Headed up to Richer to drop off all the coated parts and bolted the tin work back up. I love the look with it coated black. Kinda makes me wanna shoot the lower firewall with LineX now.

Hahahahaha, never say never, right? I'll definitely cage it, but I'd be surprised if I ever ditched the stock bed since I do still use it like a truck, but then again I also said I'd never go wider/do glass fenders hahahahaha.

I stopped by Richer Racing to check everything out in person, Jonny and his crew are killing it as usual. Can't wait to see it all buttoned up!

Thanks man, appreciate that. This has been such a fun truck to build. Ever since I had one in high school it's basically been my dream to have one that's built.

Just realized I never posted the finished pics from the axle/spring under swap.

I'm digging the new slightly lower ride height. I was able to drop the front ride height as well to match the rear.

Image

The drivers side bedside is @ Autofab right now to get a fuel door pocket glassed on. Last step before I get the fenders and bedsides painted.

Rear axle and springs:

Image

Snagged some 3.0 Raptor bypasses for the rear. With these shocks on there, it's at about 17-18" rear travel.

Image

Image

And swapped the front C/O's over to Fox as well, because OCD.

Image

And the obligatory droop shot:

Image

Also, here's a shot of the third brake light project I've been working on. I cracked an OEM housing, had a steel plate cut out to cover where the lens used to be, and then retrofitted it with 2 red LED Rigid dome lights for the third brake light, and a high power Rigid A series white LED for the cargo light. I'm loving the upgrade. Much better on the third brake lights, and the cargo light illuminates the bed like it's daytime.

Lovin that 3rd brake light mod! I've been wanting to swap my cargo top and do something exactly like that for a chase light setup!

Thanks man...been geeking out on that thing. Really pleased with how it came out.

I wired up a little Baja Designs light with built in switch for the under hood light as well.

I ran out to Ocotillo Sunday afternoon for a little shakedown run with Bray (DMBronco) since I knew this would probably be the only weekend I'd have a chance to get out before the holidays. Stoked with how the truck ran. The rear shocks could use a little tuning, and a couple new bypass adjusters (more on that later), but the spring under felt great, and I was really happy with the new gear ratio in the rear axle. So glad I went to 5.14's.

Airing down before we hit the dirt:

Image

Snagged a quick shot as we were trying to figure out why Bray's rig decided to shut down. Not sure what it was, but we fiddled with the inertia switch and then she fired right back up, so off we went again.

Image

Then we ran out towards the railroad tracks and blasted along that road for awhile. I love that section...so fast and nice and buttery.

Image

Image

Then we hooked left over towards Superstition. Stopped for a hydration break:

Image

Then we headed up the base of Superstition, but ended up stopping after an unforeseen drop off caught us by surprise. After a quick safety meeting, I parked my rig and hopped in with Bray to head to the top and eat some lunch.

Pics of said unforeseen drop-off:

Image

Image

That's my truck down there somewhere. Kind of a funny little where's Waldo shot.

Image

After grabbing a bite, we headed back down, grabbed my truck and headed back towards the railroad bridge/wash. Grabbed a couple glamour shots there.

Image

I'm kinda laughing since I noticed the graffiti once I loaded the pics onto my computer. Oh well...I guess i won't frame this one after all.

Image

All in all a great little half day shakedown run, got in about 50-60 dirt miles. The truck ran almost flawlessly...the only carnage on my rig was a couple bypass adjusters that ended up being a little too long. When Richer cycled the rearend it was with 3.0 smooth bodies on there, and we swapped these on after the fact. We suspected that they might hit, and sadly they did. Not sure how I'm gonna address this since I really want to keep these shocks on the truck. I may look into converting them to remote resi instead of piggyback, and then flipping them around so that the bypass tubes are hanging off the front of the shocks instead. No idea if that's possible, but worth a shot.

Image

And here's a little readout of our run...kinda cool to see it all on the map.

Can you flip the shock 180* so the tube is in front

With the current tube/resi layout, then the resi would be on that side, and I'd be concerned about the resi hitting the underside of the bed at full bump. If we could convert it to remote resi though, and mount the resi off the upper shock mount tube, that might just work.
