Murph,

That's cool how the Vintage Air setup can handle all the needs.

I'll be in Denver soon for work, maybe I can do a Driveby. I love F100s just as much in there stock form.

Thanks, Steve. Way to hold my hand to the fire.

Well, I have recently made a push to get this thing done. Or, at least, more done than it is now. I am completely out of room. The only way to create some space is to put the truck together. As of now it's completely blown apart getting ready for paint. So I actually went backwards in my quest for more space, but that's how it goes. I did some bodywork on the cab, not too much, as I'm pretty sure that it's some kind of bad luck. Especially on the roof. So the truck is almost prepped, I still need to get the garage ready.

I just keep finding more things to do before paint. I have finished some parts I made and had them powder coated, so they're ready to go. I had to hold some up for motivation. I would have pinned them on, but I had just drilled out all the rivets on the springs for paint, damn! I have been mounting and finding homes for anything I think I will have on the truck. I'm just about ready to call it quits and paint the damn thing. I can change/add things later.

Once it's painted, it should bolt together quickly. It's already been together and apart several times. Wiring will be the last hurdle.

I see some light at the end of the tunnel now. Still a million little things to do.

That's always the way it is. Anytime I think I see the light on the crew I look at it again & the tunnel closes in & crumbles on me again.

Some progress as of late. I'm at a standstill again while I heal up after a small elbow procedure. I need to quit treating my body like a rental car so I can get this thing put back together. This was a big hurdle, hopefully I can mess it all up soon.

That's just prep and primer, already an improvement.

Trust me, it ain't perfect, but it's perfect for what it's for. Everything is clean and will be much nicer to work on. The cold is a stock Ford truck color, Glacier blue. Now I need to paint the tube work (black) so it can go back together. I've got a pile of parts waiting to go. Soon!

Lookin good Mike. Remind me to pick your brain on paint when I talk to you next. Safe to assume you went with a clear coat setup vs. a single stage? I had always planned on doing a single stage on the crew & other trucks so I could buff out the mexican in striping & also touch up a bit easier. I've heard all the newer single stage paints suck though

It's just a single stage. It's got some orange peel, but I'll save it. Like you said, I'll cold sand it and buff it out when it starts looking bad. I bought the materials from the guy from SD that sells out at the Vets stadium swap meet. A friend of mine has a shop and uses it all the time. It's knock-off PPG, basically.

I only blocked down the original paint, primed it, blocked it once and shot it. I left plenty of "character" in it, if you know what I mean. I just stuck to the plan, it was tough, but I told myself that 1 trip to Baja and any imperfections would never matter. It will get rock chipped and pinstriped to the point that these imperfections will become invisible. I didn't do any body work on the roof, I figured that HAS to be bad luck.

Thanks for the kind words. It kind of looks like an Easter egg right now, I'm looking forward to getting the tube work sprayed. It starts looking better when there's some black in there. It will look even better with wheels and tires on it...

Awesome. 1/2 way through reading that 1st post I was going to ask what guy at Vets & ask if you'd wanna meet there sometime. Been ages since I ran up there & I'm due for a trip back...

And what you describes paint wise was my exact thought/plan = it's a truck & will be used in the dirt. No need to get all uber anal on it like a show piece. Lookin good from a distance will cut it for me. Heck, everything the same color/paint scheme works!

Wow.....I like the paint color and style. Period correct, vintage. I will enjoy seeing this one and other F100s at a race or on a Baja trip. This truck looks great!

Mounted my tail lights. These aren't Autofab bedsides, I imagine that Johns panels might fit better. These are some knock offs of unknown origin that I bought from some carpet bagger I met on the inter web.

I ran the heads of some bolts through the band saw so they would fit under the lens. Bolted them into the stock housing, then bent some 2" flat stock. Basically like a gauge mounts. Just need to get some new lenses and gaskets. I think I'll double up on the ones that go between the housing and the bed just to fatten it up.

I'm starting to be able to work my arm again, so I've been doing some little things getting ready to bolt it together. It still amazes me how long the smallest thing take. When you have to factor in trips to buy hardware, spray bombing even takes time. Not to mention the stuff that goes to plating or powder.

Still fun though. I'm excited to put it together so I can get it down to Baja. I have been eyeing NORRA lately, too. I'd be in the same class as the spare parts truck, among others. I'd have to bring (find!) my big boy pants, for sure. Thanks guys.

It's really hard to caption pictures when tapatalk rearranges the order. I have not yet gotten the hang of it yet. Obviously!

I've been enjoying the bandsaw, though.

Hey now - all sales are final after 5 seconds. It's been like 5 years on these - haha.

Glad to see the progress & good to hear the arm is working it's way back. Keep it up - NORRA with your big boy pants awaits!
