Well, its official, I just bought a 84 shortbed F 100 for my DD / race hack in Aus. I pick it up Sunday and will start cleaning it up straight away. I will post pics once it gets home. Eventually, the Bronco will come home and all the parts will update / modernise the shortbed, along with fibreglass bedsides, fenders, hood, etc. It only has a 4.1L six in it now, but it will make way for a V8 soon enough. I am hoping it will see its debut at the Finke Desert race next May. More to follow.

What was the last year for Ford Trucks and Broncos down there?

Broncos was 1988 and F trucks carried on until 1992 (all were 87 - 91 models for that year). Broncos 80 to 85 were Clevland V8 5.8L or 4.1L six in manual or auto (no auto for 6 cyl). 85 to 88 were only some six cylinders or 5.0L EFI. F trucks had a choice of 6 or Clev V8 until 85, then it was six or 5.0L until about 88, when a few 5.8L's were available. No 92 - 96 Broncos or F trucks were ever sold ex factory here. A lot of the EFI V8's were converted with local Clevland engines because they were gutless and unreliable (to the bush mechanics who couldnt understand how to fix ém). Aus changed to unleaded fuel in early 85, and many dickheads removed the filler restrictor and used leaded fuel in them. That usually destroyed the cat convertor and many 5.0L's were replaced needlessly with Clevos due to a blocked convertor. That also makes them illegal to register unless they are converted to run straight propane. My shortbed has a 200L (53 US gal altho it only holds about 165L of liquid propane) propane tank in the bed for dual fuel.

The new baby is home! It was too dark to take any pics, so I will do that tomorrow and post up then. It needs a damn good clean up inside and out and some bodywork and paint to make it look ok. Later this week, I will take it for a roadworthy inspection to see what it needs for a certificate, then I will do the transfer papers etc. For a DD, the six will be ok, but I'm thinking V8 conversion very soon, as power is barely adequate. A good tune and service will probably help heaps and then a thorough inspection to see what else I can do before heading OS to CA and Baja

Was trying to figure out what a 4.1 was, then realized it is the 250 ci straight 6. Haven't seen those for a while here. You didn't have the 4.9 (300) six available? Amazing there is such a difference in what was sold in the same time period in the two different countries.

In 1976, Ford Aus fitted an iron crossflow canted valve head to the 200 and 250 six cylinder engines. In 1981 it was changed to aluminium. The 240 and 300 six werent sold in the F series in Aus after about 1975, as our local 302 and 351 clevland engines more than sufficed. A lot also had to do with keeping a percentage of local manufacturing content in the vehicles back then. Check the pics later.

Dilligaf is a biker term, that bros used to create Dgaf. My guess is that term is big down there due to the crazy outlaw bikers Oz has. Truck may have even come from a supporter.

Rod, whats the chance of you bringing a license plate back for my wall?

I'll see what I can do for ya ;)

Actually, DILLIGAF is very common amongst the country bumpkins to have on their POS utes. Its coming off as soon as I find my scraper.

Suspension ideas =

Front:
Option 1/ modified and braced (2.5" drop) Rancho drop brackets, 4"coils, adjustable buckets, Fox 3.0 RR shocks and 2.0 bumps with stock braced beams.
Option 2/ C&T beams and above Fox gear or 3.0 coilovers.
Option 3/ Autofab 3" over beams and above Fox gear.

Rear:
Deaver J40's, 18" travel shock mount, Fox 3.0 x 12" 3 tube bypasses & 2.0 bumps, or Autofab's rear setup complete.

Yes I copied the Bronco's setup, with the plan to keep the J40 springs instead of F53's. I still like the idea of the drop brackets to help the centre uni joint angle. I dont have to deal with following TT's with 39's on them here, so the clearance in the centre isnt so critical. Using stock braced beams means if I damage one at the track, I can replace it quickly without having to buy 2 sets of C&T beams. I also plan to clearance and plate the frame over the beams to gain some more uptravel while the engine is out during the V8 / 4WD conversion. I can fit coil overs but I have to watch where they go, as the booster/MC sit out away from the firewall to clear the clutch MC in the RHD setup. Once that is resolved, then I can go wild on the frontend. I know some of you will think I am crazy on this, but we can thrash it out over some beers in Baja. :D One of the best things with the truck being RHD, the reversed (RHD) steering linkage more accurately follows the TTB's design, so I end up with less bump steer.

Powertrain, I am thinking alloy head Clevo 351, with lo-gear C6 and 1356, with 4.88 gears and floater 9" in rear.

LPG / Propane tank. I have a dual fuel conversion, so I can use cheap LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) to run around and have gasoline as a back-up to use between fill-ups. I just filled it tonight, 153.5 litres of LPG @ 63.9 cents per litre (40.95 US gals @ roughly AU2.39 per US gal) cost me AU$97.00 :D :D Thats nearly 3 weeks of to and from work and running errands
