Yes, Willy's cab. 351W and C6. 4-link rear and quarter elliptic front. Pretty cool rig.

Re: Loaner Lead Sled
That thing is sexy. Not my style with the a-arms, rack and bags in the front, but I like the stance he achieved with it. The turbos on there are making me think about putting the spare cummins in my '38 again. Been toying with the idea on and off for a while. Really had bee planning on much more of a traditional type rod build with it though.PBR wrote:my friend luke's chevy truck. sbc with twin turbos, custom a-arm front suspension, air bags on all corners. everything done by him at age 21!

Re: Hot Rods
Whenever I have room for a long term project I'd like to build a rat-rod pick-up with a 2.3L turbo and and Twin I-beam front suspension. Kind of a new meets old thing. Even though the rat rod crowd will hate it....

Re: Hot Rods
That thing is definitely interesting/different!
Very tempted on the cummins but with a straight axle, transverse leafs and probably a friction shock on the front I don't know how it would handle the weight. The 4bt (inline 4 instead of 6) cummins would probably be really cool for this, but they are getting harder to find and therefore expensive.
Still might throw the 6 in there but 302 or 351w is the current plan.

Re: Hot Rods
i tried talking luke into the 4bt instead of the sbc but he was scared, don't be scared! i think any diesel with an auto behind it in any hot rod is just to kool for skool! if i ever had the time and space i would build a hot rod with a duramax/allison combo.

Re: Hot Rods
I wouldn't mind putting a 6bt in a 56' or so Chebby pickup. Or a 42-50 Ford pickup.

Re: Hot Rods
Awesome thread, but I disagree about not adding some modern stuff to the old rigs. Upgrading the suspesnion and braking to our current day ability is really a good idea. At the least disc brakes all around. In terms of engine, I'm old school carb'd V8s.

Re: the ultimate "rat rod"!
Mega bucks in upgrades, and crappy paint makes it a rat rod?
