I ran semi float on 35s hard for 3 yrs , never an issue. That being said I wasn’t big on jumping or catching massive air either.

If you splurge on full floater, do it. If not start with Semi but definitely try and go with the 35 spline axles.

35 spline axles and a Detroit are going in for sure. This rear end was a unexpected expense and is eating into my shop fund. Just trying to find a need vs want balance and get this thing done. That said, I want to avoid having to do something twice. Those of you following the build can see how I’m using the truck and the upgrades I’m in the process of having done. That’s why I figured I’d pick your brains.

Got the parts on order for the full floater. RuffStuff 9” housing with a back truss, Solid D60 rear end kit and a 9” 3rd with 4.88’s set up for 35 spline axles. Decide to keep a spool. I don’t drive much on the street and I like the way the truck handles with the spool.

Dash is back from powder coating and everything is getting wired up. I think it came out great. Most of the parts are in for the floater rear end. Just waiting for the housing from RuffStuff.

This build is still chugging along. Much slower than I’d like, but not much I can do about that short of finding a different fabricator. Anyway, the front end is off and getting a refresh, gauges are all wired up, the new AC unit is blowing cold, the new rear end is under construction and I got a new dog approved PRP bench seat for the truck. Not sure how it ended up this way, but by the time this finished I’ll almost have a new truck.

Still chipping away at it. Front end is all freshened up and back on the truck and the rear end is in the works.

Thanks for posting that pic of the seat in there. I couldn't decide between a bench or 3 buckets for my truck, I ended up with 3 Mastercraft buckets. Looks good with the bench!

Only reason I went with the bench is I like to take my dog with me as much as possible.

Rear fenders are tubbed and the tire stands are in. Have an appointment for new carpet in the cab next week. We’re getting close. It’s just small stuff now.

Goal is to have her ready enough to be take out to watch the TT race at KOH his weekend. The carpet and electrical is done. Ken is making some custom door panels and then giving everything a once over before turning me loose for the week.

It’s coming together nicely and now all the toys and trick little bits are going in like the billet door handles, Baja Designs LED dome lights, radios and such.

Guess I’ll update this thread. The truck was finished enough to take it out to KOH. It’s maiden dirt trip was on Friday before our EMC race and Tom and I went out to watch the TT race at around mile marker 43. After that we took some trails back towards Newberry and let the truck stretch its legs a bit. Truck felt great for the most part. The rear end isn’t as planted as the front, but overall the truck was predicable. As usual it’s always the last jump that gets ya. I was running the truck in 4x4 to break everything in and hit this tiny jump on the gas service pipeline road about 100 yards from the end of the trail and broke the front axle on the landing. Damn thing only had 90ish dirt miles on it. I just zip tied it to the beam and ran it like that for the rest of the week. Found a few areas that need some attention, but overall I’m happy with the truck. The biggest shock to me was how freaking loud the rear bypasses are even on a paved road. Thank god it’s not a daily driver. I decided to pick up a new shell in favor of repairing the old one. This new shell has a front sliding window so it should add another layer of glass between the shocks and my ears. Gonna have a new aluminum roof rack made to loose some weight up top and we’re going to tie the rack and shell into the cage for strength. We also decided to reroute the exhaust since it was dumping onto the rear axle and heating it up. I’m thinking I’ll have it routed through the front lower corner of the passenger side bed panel. Kinda where I’m at now. I did pick up some Assault sun visors for the truck in Hammertown which were kinda cool and needed.

Out at Mm43 waiting on them TT’s

Ugly side. For now.

New shell looks tits on the 250

I’m glad I found these by chance. It sucked not having sun visors

Unfinished door panel. Don’t judge it just yet.

The truck is finally getting some attention again. The front end is torn apart and the cause of the failure seems to be from the shop that did the rebuild failing to install the c clip on the passenger side hub. Frustrated, but they are fixing it. The old shell is off and we’re trying to figure out how to install the new one but keep the windows. The truck actually looks good without the shell, but I like the sleeper status the shell gives the truck.

Few updates. The rear glass is in and cam out great. Running the cage through the opening complicated the glass but makes it easier for the shell. We ended up fabricating metal inserts for the ends of the window and had some tempered glass cut to fit the new opening. I think I came out great. The exhaust is rerouted out the passenger side and the door panels are 95% finished. Just need a boot made for the handles and pads for the arm wrests. I should be taking it out tomorrow for a work 4x4 trip to test everything out. After that it goes back in to finish the shell and the few remaining finishing touches.
