Re: 4 door grocery getter
Now I am getting to the point where I better figure out what power plant I am going to go with. Keep bouncing back and forth between ford and chevy. Want ford but budget says go chevy. Contemplating pulling Big block from my bronco and selling it as a roller. But here is an update. Links are in place and cycled everything seems happy. This is bumped out.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
The truck looks great Brandon, but it doesn't quite fit in the dictionary under "Budget".
So don't fail the OBS moniker by sleazing the Getter with an LS.
A 427 SBF is your friend, and you know it's the right thing to do.
Just have to arm wrestle with yourself a bit.....

Re: 4 door grocery getter
The more I look at this truck and think about using it the more I am inclined to throw a big BBF in it. Like 525ci or larger. Funny story as everyone knows how I operate I have a couple people that have already tried to buy this truck but not for sale yet if ever. Basically as I tell everyone get your project done go use it figure out what you want different and do it all over again. Well this is the project that we have taken all learnings and captured so it will be my dream truck. Anyways here is some pics. We are only working on this at night as my time allows with an infant at home an hour away from the shop. We rolled all the roof tubes to get as tight as possible. Cage is 2" 4130 with 1.75" 4130 bracing. It will be home to 4 Sparcos.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
Thank you guys it has been a team effort and I love how the truck is turning out. Also we are only working on this thing 6-10 hours per a week. But had most of it designed in my head for a while.
I am coming up on a critical point where I have to figure out whether to keep going and finish or get to a roller status then wait till the fun money replenishes. One requires selling my bronco the other requires packing a lunch for a while.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
We have started burning the cage up. I was just going to mig weld due to time but all my buddies talked me into tig welding the cage for resale value. It is funny when I set out on this truck I had mindset this is it I will never do this again. A lot of people outside the hobby have no idea what we put into these vehicles financially and mentally. I am now 35 years old and probably gained more grey hair by stupid ideas then normal life stress. So this is it in my mind not going through again. Then a pretty well known racer contacted me recently and made me a stupid offer on this truck as a roller. First thought yes everything is for sale number offered was a great kinda stupid offer. Well after talking with close friends and family I made the decision this may be my first vehicle ever not for sale yet. I know crazy huh Hollander said no to selling something. With the uncertain times ahead being an election year and living in a country so divided it is probably dumb on my part but I really want to finish this truck and be able to go enjoy the dirt with my family.
Well here is some update pics. I figured out rear shock mounts went with a fairly simple but stout design. Also started laying out front of cab cage and decided to ditch the body mounts it makes it a lot cleaner.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
Few Updates. Main part of the cab should be done tomorrow. Friday afternoon my body guy is coming to cut the roof off so we can Tig the top of the roof tubes. Shock mounts are in their home for the rear. 26" of well tuned travel should do the trick.

More Updates as we lace up the tubing. Pretty pumped on how this is coming out. Roof will get cut off within the next few days to weld top of the tube junctions. Almost ready to start engine cage. Then it will sit and collect dust while I save for motor and finishing stuff that kills budgets.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
Well after too much consideration I have opted to go Cheby. This is a very hard decision but I had a low mile 525hp ls3 fall in my lap that Danzio recently rebuilt 1000 miles ago as well as a new built 4l80 trans. My budget just will not support the $30k motor I want and saving that money will allow me to get this thing done quicker. Anyways here are some updates we will start tinning to seal up Cab very soon. Roof has not been cut off yet but should very soon.

Re: 4 door grocery getter
I think you'll be happy with the Chebby in there. No hate here for that choice. Best part for the job at the most reasonable price. If you can save $10k+ and use it somewhere else while not losing anything other than "keep if Ford" why the heck not!!
And what bedsides did you end up with? Looks like you're cutting down a standard short bed set?

Ya these are standard Autofab bedsides that we started with. Requested in white Autofab delivered white but I got an ear full from John. He told me next time I want white price goes up or I can go to TJ. I really Like Autofab quality so I will probably pay the added cost in the future if I want white.ChaseTruck754 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 9:22 amI think you'll be happy with the Chebby in there. Haha, you gotta love John. Curious, why did you want them in white vs. gray?
