I originally wanted to do a dual shock setup up front. Out a KOH and the Metalcloak Stampeded the guys from the King truck kept steering me towards a 3.0 IBP setup. A single shock up front will cut down on fab work so I do see a benefit to going that route. The King guys also likes having the larger coil springs up front. Plus my existing 2.5” c/o will need a full rebuild and new springs. With that in mind, I was liking the idea of a single 3.5” c/o up front. I was thinking of paying King to set up the valving once everything is finished. Like I said though I’m open to suggestions. I’d hate to put a bunch of money into this and not see notable improvements in the trucks ability to soak up the hard hits.

IBP less noise to listen while driving and less space taken up. it is a take off every time to tune thing is my understanding.

Bypass with c/o set up probably easier to tune for speed and could get away with 2.5 2.5 pretty easy and see improvements.

I like how our TTB stuff handles with just a 3.0 coilover in the front and it keeps the clicking down and saves space it seems to help with the big bumps due to the spring rate options and valving. So for my needs I could see IBP as a option.

Does your rear out perform your front?

I’m going to upgrade the rear most likely to a 3.5” 3 tube bypass and ditch the 2.5” link killers.

Anyone have experience with Solid Shocks. My truck is all Giant stuff and Geoff is making his own shocks now. SC150 (my trucks former owner) likes what he has to offer and suggested them.

I have all giant stuff on mine and ordered my Kings through him before he started Solid. His stuff is usually purpose built with no frills. I've thought of going with solid at some point but have no reason to right now.

He has some stuff that is really cool and some stuff that makes you scratch your head but I bet it'll work awesome.

I like the 64 kit that’s on the truck. I called Geoff and we talked a bit. He recommended his 3.0 setup front and rear. He also recommended drop brackets up front for more up travel at ride height. Problem with that is I’d have to redo my double swing steering. He also doesn’t like hydro bumps. He has a do more with less philosophy. If I were starting from scratch I’d be more inclined to go that direction. I called accutune and spoke with them as well. They recommended adding a bypass up front and a re valve of the existing C/O and a 3.0 bypass in the rear. For tune ability reasons I think I’m more inclined to go the second route.

with limited up travel a well tuned bypass up front might be fine no bump. on most peoples set up the bump stop can be seen getting love really early in the up travel and is not ideal.

Took a bit longer than expected but the truck just got dropped off today. Parts and materials are being ordered. Let’s get this thing going.

Got my order in with Accutune. The coilovers and front bumps are getting rebuilt and carried over to the new setup. The bumps are also getting an inch taken out of the stroke. Up front we’re adding a four tube 3.0x14”bypass and the rear link killers are being replaced by a four tube 3.0x16” bypass. Only down side is a 4-8 week lead time.

My guy is finally starting to tear into her. Updates should be a little more regular from this point forward.

A little progress on the cab. All my parts are in. I’m upgrading quite a few things besides the shocks and chassis. SAG power steering pump, 3G alternator, hydro boost brakes, new steering rack. New A/C unit, custom dash with all new gauges, 60W Rugged radio, new 7” lowrance GPS unit are the main updates. Should be a big improvement once it’s finished.

I have really appreciated following this build and am about the start working on a cage for a similar 91 regular cab shortbed. Do you have any experience to share on the thought process or pros/cons to keeping or removing the inner roof and B pillar skin to make more room for the cage?
