Vintage air ac kit

All, okay so im throwing around the idea of making a DIY ac kit to remove the donkey air box set up and bring it all inside the cab. It would include all the pieces necessary to install a vintage air behind the dash. It would have all the function of the stock unit but eliminate the outside obstruction. It will utilize the stock pump and condenser and come with everything needed to retrofit. The only item that will be needed is the vacuum and charge. which I can do mobile or can be done at any auto repair shop. im not sure what the kit will cost but im rough estimating 2k. What are GFB members thought on this? would anyone be interested in putting a deposit down to get a few made? Let me know, be honest. BTW for me to do a kit like this full install at my shop is about 4k, parts and labor. Thanks guyssssssss!!!!

Would be awesome. What would need to be sacrificed under/inside the dash to make it fit? Factory controls?

Will,

From what I've seen the heater core would be replaced with the all in one Vintage Air unit.

Nothing really, the vintage air is much more compact. The factory controls would not be utilized but they would be replaced by VA controls that look very similar. It would be very clean. Just think, you could stock width 37s, you can run 40s on 4.5 over, no clearance issues!!!!!!!!!

To me this is what’s important:

1. Not an issue with a typical prerunner full cage.
2. It needs to have power. This kit needs to be able to cool a truck in July in Phoenix at 110*
3. Heater has to work like or better than stock.
4. Defroster ducts must work like a stocker. If they could be updated to use electrical servos that would be great to rid the cables.
5. Stock registers need to be able to be used.

Ditching the huge box would be killer just to give more room for suspension parts. I’ve aften wondered why the wrangler climate controls arent used more frequently.

So touching base on all of those items, this kit will satisfy all of them. Im going to order the parts for the first kit and get some pics up. Its gonna take me a little bit but will need to be done by new years. Im building the first kit on my bronco

I have a vintage air kit in my Bronco. I just got the Bronco a few days ago so I can’t speak to how good it is yet. I will post a better photo of the controls later today.

Those controls don't look out of place at all. If the aluminum were painted black, you might not even notice at first. Awesome!
