Mustang Shorties on a FSB???

Post by VintageIronFab »

Does anyone know if a set of off the shelf 89-93 Mustang shortie headers can work? Like will they fit with a nice custom Y-pipe or just crash into the frame or cab? I’m running the urethane bushing style motor mounts btw.

If you’ve given it a go let me know!!

I ran a set of bbk equal length. Fox body shorties on my 96 f150 4x4 with the 302. They cleared everything fine and I just had a true didn't exhaust built to fit them. A y pipe could be made no problem

Where are the problem areas that could be an issue potentially?

On another note- there’s a discussion here about waning use of GFB and no edit is incredibly lame!

Sure the no edit can be frustrating, but step up, build your owne website & manage it & do as you wish with the edit function if you hate it so much...

It's literally just a configuration option in phpBB and basically every other forum on the web has it enabled. No wonder people are sore about it.

Excuse my ignorance, are the mustang shorties cheaper, more common, available used, free-re flowing etc?

Curious why one would use them over some meant for a Bronco F-Series.

Because the Bronco ones A. have the EGR bung thing on them that I don’t want, B. Are only 1 1/2” and 1 5/8” only in the Lightning version, C. They are not made but by 2 companies anymore- so little variety D. Limited on matierials made -ie none made with 304 SS.

I run a set of the Bassani units on my F150 but would like a full 304 SS option in a 1 3/4” or 1 7/8” midlength option if I went to a higher HP engine at some point. It would just be nice to start with a better off the shelf option vs a full custom setup.

This list could get very long. Cal smog laws can effect some
Would be nice to not cook starters, Must clear coil over mounting and engine cage. Not burn shifter cables. Clear frt drive shaft. Be able to change spark plugs
1.6 primary shorties will limit you at about 3500 RPM and up, And has been proven on a dyno many times Some shorties may not give any HP gains.

I had switched over to 1.6 primary Hooker Comp long tube headers on my 5.8L

Most LS motors run 1.7 primary.
I now run 1.7 primary midlength Accufab on my stroker

i know this is an old post, but I have a set of factory shorty headers from a 86-93 mustang sitting in my garage. I will let them go for a 12 pack of beer or 2 rolls of TP
