What size steel plate is being used for this? 16 gauge? 18 gauge?

Assuming you are talking plates from the tubes to the body at the A-pillar and B pillar, etc. I have seen and used anything from 10 or 11 ga to 16. 16 seemed on the thin side to me, but yes, I realize the body is thinner than that. I guess thickness depended on the area of application.

If you are meaning where the tubes go through the floor and you are welding plates in there I have always used .125" for that.
