Fiberglass Fender mounting kit

Post by Andy Jones »

Ok guys ! Who thinks something like these should be a bolt on kit ? Jeep guys have things like this, so that the garage guy, do it yourselfer can move along with their builds .!
I don't access to a tube bender at the time being, so this is kinda stretching my build time.

I think if Desolate Motorsports, Solo, or Richer built these as a kit, it would help a lot of us out, when mounting fenders. All you would need is the structure minus tabs welded . So you can put things where you needed them.
Thoughts ??

I think the issue Andy is simple- it's the fenders-- they would have to build a structure for a particular brand of fender.

Stock style glass fenders, and flared fenders, would share the same structure. Only difference would be where you, the installer would weld your fender tabs at.

I'm pretty sure that desolate motorsports is going to offer those for sale on website. I could be wrong but I believe that is what I read.

This may be my opinion but here goes- you build a set to bolt to the brand or model and stick to the brand/model of fender - you build it to a specific model off a good stock truck and the consumer mounts the structure and that's it- at least if I was going to offer fenders that's what I would do :-)

AutoFab does make a kit. It is a weld it yourself kit but it works really well. Not all their stuff has made it to the website, so talk to John at AutoFab and he will get you going.

I emailed AutoFab two weeks ago about and was told that they do not make the kit.

That's new, the link I posted, even has the instructions for the install.

You would either have to make the front end parts interchangeable for the different body styles for people to order and the glass mounting structure different for each brand. A lot are similar but some are not at all.

That would be the point to use either Fiberwerx or Autofab - one of the better front fenders is Glassworks but I've read he is gone away.

It would be great if someone made them with all the tabbing but then no body would pay for them as they are a pain in the ass to build. Cost on these would be about 800-1200 built and tabbed I would figure. There's a reason why the fab shops haven't jumped on making these.

The good thing about this kinda product is there's virtually zero cost - unless you made them out of 4130 or DOM, which makes zero sense to me.

Even without a bender it wouldn't be to hard to build. I also like the idea of skinning a set of oem fenders.

Not my picture, just an example.

Skinned inner fenders, don't have that detail to build look to them. In my opinion it's almost like someone coped out in the last stages of a build ..

True that! If these are being made out of 4130 or DOM.. it's a waste of money .. they should be built out of 0.90, 0.95 Mild Steel.
