AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
I am installing a set of AutoFabs buckets on my 1984 F150 frame up build. I noticed the driver side bucket dose not sit flat, Steve G & the boys at AutoFab suggested I cut a pie shape out of the frame rail, hammer the hump flat, then re-weld it. Couldn't find any info or pics online. Anyone have a photo of the process (size of the cut, location, ect.).
If not, maybe I can mark the cut on my frame, then post a pic of it and someone can guide me in from there?? This is my first time restoring a vehicle, so it's a steep learning curve. I want to be sure of things before I go cutting & welding my frame.

Re: AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
Will do tomorrow. Its getting dark on the east coast already or I would do it now.
There is a small hump behind the stock coil bucket, at the top of the frame. The AutoFab buckets are flat on the back so they don't sit flush against the frame. AutoFab told me to make a pie shaped relief cut on or near the top rail of the frame (0.25"W x 4.0"L). Then to hammer the hump flat, and weld any remaining gap. I was just hoping to see a picture or get more detailed instructions.

Welcome, Rich!
No pie cut. Just hammer that thing flat.
One of these will do the trick.

Re: AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
Why aren't the buckets made properly to me is the better question? For that amount of money they certainly should be.
Re: AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
It is not that they are made improperly. There are various minor frame changes through the years.

They are actually really nice components. I have their radius arms & beams as well. I knew there would be some fabbing required, but as mentioned earlier, I just bought my first welder 2 weeks ago...so this build project is quite the undertaking for me.

Do you have your shocks yet? I've got a pair of 10" sway aways that will be available in a week or 2. I used them with my Autofab buckets. Not pretty, but valved right and work great!

Re: AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
I do have a set. They are Fox 2" by something. Bought them off Steve G a few years ago. Thanks for letting me know though.
I'll start a build thread soon to show what I got going on.

Re: AutoFab Coil Bucket Install Help
There are a lot of differences in Ford frames. Things rarely just bolts on to them. I have had to redrill holes in frames to get there motor mounts on. Other trucks they have just slipped in. Not the most consistent things.......
