Tire Gate / Prerunner Style Rear Tire Carrier

Post by sydude »

I know there is an existing thread on Rear Tire Carriers located here: http://www.gofastbroncos.com/forum/view ... ?f=15&t=53, but that really is centered on carriers that are similar in form and located in the same place as the stock carrier. I want to do a prerunner style carrier, exactly the same as the Tire Gate carrier here:

The only problem with the Tire Gate unit is that they don't make one for the Bronco and have no plans to do so - I even asked if one of their other applications could be modified to fit the Bronco (by me, not them), and they said no. Any one have any experience or ideas in regards to modifying a Tire Gate unit or fabbing up a unit completely?

An f-150 tailgate is the same size as a Bronco tailgate so I don't know why you couldn't modify one to fit. Is your cab enclosed with a windshield? I can't stand how much dust gets sucked into mine with the window down.

They don't have one for F150's earlier than '97. This is what they've got:

Ford 2008 - 2010 F250-F350 (Requires drilling of six 1/4 inch holes)
Ford 1999 - 2007 F250 - F350 (Requires drilling of Six 1/4 inch holes)
Ford 1997 - 2003 F150 Standard Bed / Not Step side or Super Crew
Ford 2004 - 2010 2010 Raptor and F150 Standard Bed / Not Step side

Are the newer F150's the same dimensionally as the older ones?

The 99+ F250/F350 or Standard Bed 97+ F150 is probably the closest. Those trucks use the same tailgate. Will they give you width measurements? Any decent fab shop could build the same thing but it would probably cost more.

You maybe better off doing your own. by the time you modify one you will probably have as much time in building one from scratch

Agreed. I'll take this project on in the spring, and I'll try to do a tech writeup on it if anyone is interested.
