hidden dash bar

Post by 1971Ford »

When you put the dash tube behind the dash on a 90's bronco do you pull the outer dash off and keep the black dash mounting system on the bronco when putting that tube in or do you pull it all out?
How easy is it to tuck a tube inside the dash on a 90's bronco, keeping in mind it's a daily driver and everything should be functional. I don't see a whole lot of room in there, i'd imagine quite a bit of cutting on the dash pieces needs to happen?
where exactly does this tube need to fit?, and how do you get the windshield /\ to it?

Thanks. Pics if anyone has them would help a bunch too.

If I am not mistaken to put a bar behind the dash you will have to remove the whole dash then cut for exit points as needed...this will depend on your design.
Check out Paul Ws bronco he has his crossbar beneath the cowl which I beleive will be easier to work with. He has some very good points on roll cage designe and considerations. I dont remeber the specific thread but take a look at his stuff should help you answer the questions better.

Correct. The behind the dash bar requires revamp for the defroster ducts if you still want to use them. Tricky but doable. Everything from firewall back comes off for the inner bar. Then you can have the "V" bar behind the windshield. Racers have both bars.
With the dash gone the inside bar is pretty easy. The cowl bar is harder since it has to be preshaped and fit thru holes from the side. The engine cage "V" goes thru the top of the firewall to the cowl bar. (The cowl and inner dash bars are not inter connected? I think). Both are welded to the "A" pillar hoop.
Anyway, I do not have the windshield "V" and the dash inner bar.

Cho is eliminating some of the stuff behind his dash to fit the tubes. No A/C and whatnot.

If you are going to attach the a-pillar bars to the front of the truck it needs to be very stout. Lots of triangles, no dead tubes, and very few bends. This is the weak point of our style trucks.

I wish Kiefer would pop in here. He does a very nice job behind the dash.

Both of mine were just like Chos... and it had a/c and heating.. Sato's F-150 is similar and it it has all the creature comforts as well. you make brackets that hang off the tubing for your Dash ETC...

All the ducting for the ac starts to get in the way. Just got to start choping it up to get the dash back on. You can make it work but it is a pain in the ass!

I will probably go the fiberglass dash route, what is stopping me is the extra $400-500 and having to put all the stock things into the dash. I have a while to think about.
Be nice to me, I'm learning....and slow in the head...

Ok im popped in. lol. Ok if you just want to keep the dash for looks and gut it you can. I much prefer i custom dash though. the stock one just falls apart.
