Bumper question...

Post by SC150 »

Are the frames different on the 87-91 F!50's in comparison to the 92-96's? Found a real nice bumper for sale that was on a 95 but not sure if it'll work with my 1990. Any info is appreciated.

92-96 has the crumple zone that you will have to deal with. Is that the bumper on dr? A good fab shop will have no problem fitting that bumper. Offer him a little less, pay a fab shop to mount it, and you will still get away cheaper than buying a new bumper.

Both the frame rails and body are a different shape. The body width is the same and a bumper for a different year could normally be adapted.

If it is off that truck I bet Tom charged about a grand to build it! He does NICE work though. Keep in mind I'm pretty sure that truck was rolled so look it over and make sure the thing isn't bent/tweaked, but if the price tag isn't too high on it I'd say go for it.

The only bad thing is that your fontend is almost flat. and that bumper is going to stick waaaaay out.

Not to take a job from Keifer - but all it looks like Ton did on that one is hack the frame back a bit in the crumple zone. Cut the 2 tubes that go to back to the frame shorter and you should be able to suck that thing in closer to the grill.

Then again if Keifer can make you something for not a lot more than whatever that guy is asking something that is custom fit to your truck would be cool!

No problem Andy. John is dropping off my old beams this Saturday. Accidentially left them at his shop a couple of weeks ago.

Well, i bought this bumper off the gentleman that was selling it on DR. and guess what! it doesn't fit!! the mounting points were off by an inch and a half. so i cut off the mounting points and now need someone to weld and mount it! i have the frame and bumper cleaned and ready for some work. if anyone is willing to help out!

That's why no one makes a bolt-on bumper for these. Frame dimensions vary enough that making one-size-fits-all (pre-built) bumpers is tough to do. What fits one truck won't necessarily fit another "identical" truck.

Andy, I am not a stellar welder but I think if you wanted to come by the house sat or fri afternoon we could take care of things here otherwise I think Desert concepts could fit you in the following sat, they are racing bluewater this weekend let me know if you want to give it a whirl here
