Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
I have a set of 18s that I'm running through the bed... so I would hope for a little more droop, and rear plantation out out of the longer shackle.
Also debating on spring under, or over... I just like the three inch springs, over the 2.5s.
A three inch spring under would be cool to see...

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
Without spring preload the extra travel in droop from the shackle doesn't add much if anything at all.
I have a 3" wide National pack on my crew cab that is SU. It helps with the preload issue but on a Bronco I would just run a Giant 64 pack. 2.5 wide springs are fine.

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
On my play truck I got tired of cracking and repairing and replacing both the front spring hanger and the rear shackle mount. For the front I had a custom mount made (stock location) and for the rear, the stock hanger is reinforced and tied into the cage, also in the stock location. I use the Autofab shackle which is an inch or two longer than stock. I'll try to shoot some photos.Frontrunner54 wrote:Once I'm done piecing my front end together... Im aiming at the rear. I am debating whether to build new hangers, or to relocate the stock ones. Planning on running a 8" boomerang style shackle... and hoping to set it up, so I'm not changing ride heighth or pinion angle.
Has anyone tied their shackle hangers into their rear bumper mounts?
I know I keep asking for pics... but I don't think I can stop.

Here's some pictures. Springs are 2.5" wide so we just built for that instead of using the wide shoulder bushings to adapt 2.5" leafs to hangers for 3" wide leafs. Pardon the dirt, grime and surface rust. It used to be all painted and pretty but I just got back from running the baja 500 course with it.Frontrunner54 wrote:Yeah pics would be cool... anyone modify or plate up a stock hanger?

Looks like you gave her a beating... so 2.5s feel the road nice huh?
I wish I could build 2 gfbs at once... one with 3s, and one with 2.5s.
Thanks for the pics man. Do you have a thread on that bronco?

I'm pretty sure Chris has 3.0 Kings front and rear.

I think he meant 2.5" width leads vs 3"

Yes sir... I should've clarified.tcm glx wrote:SteveG wrote:I'm pretty sure Chris has 3.0 Kings front and rear.

I've been reading through the threads, and its so cool to know how many options there are for broncos. Ive been back and forth with S.U. vs S.O, 2.5 vs 3.0 widths... but to align with my current builds' purpose, I've set my sights on the F64 pack.
On the next one though, its gotta be a S.U. 64" pack... I just wish I could try em all. Not to say riding shotgun isn't cool, but I need some drive time to actually feel it out.

Yea, I have 2.5" wide leafs and 3.0" Kings in the back. The front 3.0" shocks are Kusters with Fox 2" dia air bumps.
I really like the 2.5" wide leafs, even with no sway bars it handles nice on the street. For a go fast bronco that is. <grin> No, really, it does drive nice and I never notice excessive sway.

Thanks again for those pics man!
Have you ever run the same setup with 2.5" shocks? Is it worth the money for the 3.0"s?
...and how do you have your rear shocks mounted? Running hydro bumps?

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
The question of 2.5 vs. 3.0 can be answere by asking yourself how hard and for how long you need to drive at race speed. I set my Bronco up first with 2.5's and it worked really well.
For Baja runs and most prerunning it was great. Then I preran the Primm course at speed and cooked the rear shocks. They got so hot that they turned the ice chest next to them in the back seat into melted goo (my shocks run through the body and the upper mounts are part of the cage).
I had the shocks rebuilt and preran the 1000 later in the year with no issues then at the Parker prerun I cooked the rears again.
After that I went to 3.0's and have had no issues since. The bigger shocks can offer the same amount of damping without creating as much heat.
The front using both coil over and bypass 2.5's has worked well and I don't foresee making any changes.

That's fantastic advice Dave.

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
Yeah I could go looking... but if you got pics of a 4 linked rear, I would love to see them. I am currently bronco-less, and my next ride, (bronco or not) has gotta be linked. I've seen em around, and I understand the limitations...
Id like to see mounting points for upper and lower links, fuel tank relocations, wheel tubs, shock mounts etc... If you could hook me up with links or pics, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Start Your Go-Fast Build-Rear Suspension
Thumbs up for ruff stuff their products and service are bar none. I've seen their housings in action at KOH and they seemed to be just as well built and designed as any of the top tier products out there. Wouldn't hesitate to run any of their parts and I've been using their heims exclusively on personal and customer vehicles for years with zero issues
